This looks like a nice project. I checked your post on Hackaday and it seems you have some rather specialised question related to video (like the choice of op-amps). There is a active community that knows this kind of stuf, with people eager to share the knowledge on two Facebook groups https://www....

how does maxmsp interface to etherdream?

i understand etherdream can play wav files from sd card and that it's possible to play, stop, choose track over OSC, but i don't see if i could use maxmsp to draw lines, dots and shapes directly from max?

there is compatibility test video on the product page. it shows that the device works directly with a panasonic mixer, korg crossfour mixer, and one other device. this means that sampler is safe and compatible with most things you plug it into.

definitely no need for scaler. sampler outputs regular pal (or ntsc). it's only that it samples at low resolution, so you get pixellated image (just like mosaic effect so commonly found on older Panasonic mixers) you might need a tbc/mixer after sampler - before other video devices - it all depends ...

i just tested the setup cskonopka suggested (using jit.qt.videout) and to my surprise, it works very well. i tested with blackmagic intensity shuttle usb, and i can use it as video output - hdmi, composite, s-video... composite and s-video do have pixellated edges, that look harsh to me, but it's no...

Most of that makes sense to me, but I don't use Jitter/Max. My Matrox capture box only has 1 video input. It would be awesome to composite 2 live camera sources together in real time. I suppose displacement mapping is limited to software... Wish there was a module for this. You're not limited to ma...

But back to it I generally use [jit.qt.videoouput] because you get more resolution options. Max7 objects seem to be a lot heavier than previous versions so I try to keep it as limited as possible. This is why I don't use [jit.world] as much. But again, it doesn't matter, only the final result matte...

Cool idea about the rescanning process. Would love to hear more about it!! to clarify, i didn't mean rescanning the monitor with the camera, but using a device called scan converter - for example one of these http://www.extron.com/product/listbytype.aspx?retired=true&subtype=39 they take input from...

displacent mapping in jitter in real time works well on any recent computer - there are few examples that ship with standard max install (just type displacement in browser) and plenty of patches online in cycling74 forums. you will need a video digitiser or a webcam - blackmagic intensity shuttle us...

you can easily make sync cable yourself. just buy 2 14 pin connectors and a piece of ribbon cable. you don't need any special tools. it is cheap and very easy to put together.

why didn't you use 14 pin LZX Sync Distribution Bus connector on the back of VC? it works for me

i won't be near my modular for some time, so i can't check the specifics.

my trick for genlocking cameras/sources is to use main and preview out of any modern video mixer - they tipically have two tbc's built in so both sources will be in sync.

this is how i connected vcg and cortex and it worked. i was able to use both video inputs with two genlocked cameras. color bars outputs were synced as well.

i will have to check how i configured dip switches when i get to the studio.

Dave, you probably can explain how they managed to squeeze video signal to audio bandwidth. it always seemed interesting as this method would (maybe) allow lo-fi video to be processed using audio mixers and effects.

thanx for the thorough report smrl. i use keyspan twin serial that is both 232 and 422, so that will be fine. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Keyspan-USB-Twin-Serial-Adapter/dp/B0000513JR calculating checksum is also not a problem - it is a pain in the ass to program, but once i do it it's fine. i can't com...

ah, that makes sense.

i must say i didn't see significant difference when trying 96khz setting for audio card. (but i usually tested using low end audio interfaces, i guess that counts as well)

i understand why Z axis needs lots of bandwidth. i don't understand why i can't get clean scanlines above 30-40. first, they start tearing, and then with higher values "folding" (like at 1:45 in my video above). theoretically i should be able to get NTSC/PAL raster without problem. in practice it do...

you are right about jit.peek object. most difficult stuff happens automatically when you use it :) concerning the resolution... hm, i'm just checking old threads like this one: https://www.muffwiggler.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=60631&start=all&postdays=0&postorder=asc i'm sure dave and liz commented ...
