Re: Bozak DJ Mixer Clone - Opened up
Hi All; I started a facebook group for builders as, for better or worse, facebook offers the widest reach. As mentioned on my website, I have never been able to offer much in the way of support for this project. The group is called "Fabric Astronaut Engineering Pathos Builders Alliance." and I'd sug...

Re: Mutron Biphase Clone - Fabric Astronaut
This isn't something I can comment on as I've not used that project before. I can say that my version has a grand total of zero changes to the schematic, outside of the power supply. I'm using a linear supply with LM317/LM337 and added decoupling caps on each rail next to each opamp. Beautifull proj...

Re: Mutron Biphase Clone - Fabric Astronaut
Oh damn, I'm hosting them in my google account as it looks like the forum isn't hosting images internally anymore - Is that the case or am I just missing it after the facelift? What is a good hosting site?

Re: Mutron Biphase Clone - Fabric Astronaut
Huzzah. I've been wildly busy the past few weeks, I teach tertiary level and reformatting the material for online delivery has been a huge task. However, Rev.2 PCBs of this project has now been ordered. Corrected a few errors and made a few small changes. Firstly, the original bypass method has been...

Re: Re:
Hey, if take a look at the original schematics the output wasn't balanced at all, hence I was comfortable just using the RCA connector and not adding XLR too. In the original the output signal goes to pin 3 of the XLR, GND to Pin 1 and pin 2 is left floating. A better choice would be to tie pin 2 to...

Been busy with life and other projects, have been playing around with a 5U height module version of the Calrec PQ1549 and a new DJ mixer design. The Biphase is working 100% now though. I have a list of changes to roll out in a Rev.2 PCB but am yet to implement anything on the files. This unit will b...

Lead times kept getting extended on the LDRs I wanted so I decided to just bung in the ones I had on hand (~5K@LUX to 500K) to test it out. Seems to be working. Some basic video with a 100Hz Pulse coming from a function generator: Note: No Li...

Re: Lightbox I'm going to get a friend to 3D print this for me. I've never actually had anything 3D printed so I imagine there may be a few tweaks to this design once they have a look over it. Basically it is intended for use with a 20mm spacer and 2x M3 screws, for no reason other than I bought a b...

@aabbcc
Thanks very much for the kind offer! I'd be happy with anything that drops to 100's of ohms at Lux and over a 1M or so in darkness.
The parts I'm waiting for are NSL-5152, datasheet can be found here:

Another brief update... to say I've got no updates. The local surplus house was able to sell me 1000pc of Hamamatsu LDRs for less than the cost of a coffee but they aren't appropriate for this project, unfortunately. The LDR units I'm now chasing won't be in stock until the 20th of this month, so th...

very nice, any recordings to share? I have just been testing it with a function generator for now, so I don't have any interesting audio samples to show off just yet. Here is a very rough video showing the operation of the modulation generators and internal LEDs for driving the phase networks. You ...

Oops, sorry about the orientation of some of those images. If anyone knows how to edit the rotation of images after upload I'd love to know about it. Update: PCBs came in and look good. JLC (for the first time) insisted on charging a unique design fee for each of the 5 parts of the original PCB (A, ...

I'm not really aware of any synth manufacturer that used anything much better than the cheapest stuff around when they were building... except for a few key locations such as expo converters etc. That said I did actually build up a pair of Arp Odyssey oscillators, one with carbon the other with meta...
