Re: Moog Grandmother

I think I found out the reason why I didn't like it. I found a teardown video, and they are using tiny pots like Behringer now to cut costs. They feel like they have lower resolution, and when you want to dial in precise sounds constantly it's annoying as hell. I was really prepared to lay out a gr...

Re: Oberheim Xpander and modern analogue synths

As I mentioned before, I would really start by replacing the two .22uf poly caps and the 4051 multiplexers in the DAC section of the voice board. The caps will require soldering, and might be a bit tricky to track down replacements, but the 4051s are all socketed and easy to replace.

Re: Oberheim Xpander and modern analogue synths

Actually most or all of the chips are socketed, so it's quite easy to do some swapping to help narrow down the issue. The oscillators are the 3374 chips, and the filters are the 3372 chips, so you can begin by swapping those chips with another voice to see if those chips are causing your problem. My...

Re: Oberheim Xpander and modern analogue synths

Having just spent a year repairing an xpander with weird voice issues, there are many points at which things could go wrong. What happens when you running the tuning cals? Does the voice exhibiting issues fail the test?

Re: Oberheim Xpander and modern analogue synths

I own a Hydrasynth and love it, but strongly disagree that it's easy to make sound like an Oberheim. The Hydrasynth is very digital sounding, although in a great way.

I also will echo the sentiment that the hydrasynth is super cool. It's like the Xpander, an Ensoniq ESQ-1, and a Waldorf Microwave all had a baby together.

Re: Oberheim Xpander and modern analogue synths

AND: Can you do stuff like modulate the attack or decay time of an envelope on any modern synths? On the Prophet Rev2 and 12 you can modulate attack, decay and release times. I've never heard an Expander other than on youtube or in tracks so I can't say whether or not these synths are going to get ...

Installed the firmware update - at least subjectively, the envelope behavior in paraphonic mode seems improved.
I can tell you there was a fair amount of time spent dialing this in for the new firmware :)

Re: Mute CV changes on Make Noise Rene

Run Your CV through a VCA, gated. How you accomplish desired results is up to the utility modules you choose to use. Many ways to skin that cat. This would result in a pitch change on gate low, so not an ideal solution. Sample and Hold is really the best thing for the job. Feed the Rene’s CV into t...

Re: Moogfest Sub-Harmonicon - What Is It?

I've received my Subharmonicon today and I think the unit might be faulty. I can hear SUB1 of VCO2 simultaneously with VCO2 even when SUB1 level is at zero in mixer section. When I'm starting to increase SUB1 level is seems quite louder than all the other subs. This doesn't happen on VCO1, subs are...

Re: Behringer Mono/Poly!

I honestly just think behringer is doing themselves a disservice by labeling all these synths as clones over and over. Instead of giving us a point of comparison that they won't quite live up to, they should just make cool sounding synthesizers, which they have been as far as I can tell. They need t...

Re: Recommend Hardware Compressor

Distressor all day long +1 = 2! (you'll want two unless you only work in mono) Of course. I have 8 😃 Where are you guys getting these $600 Distressors? Lol, but really, it is unfortunately one of the only compressors that I didn’t hit it off with. I feel it truly does do a million and one different...

Re: Behringer Mono/Poly!

hope this will be good, but I anticipate that like all the other clones behringer makes, it won't sound like the original it will just have a similar feature-set. I don´t think this is true for some of them...the model D against a real Mini and the MS1 against the SH101 reveals that they are really...

Re: RE-303 Opinions wanted (now that it has been in the "wild" for a bit.)

I own two original 303's, and the RE is the closest in tone of all the clones imo. I've owned quite a few clones, and none have quite the same mojo as the real deal, but RE seems to. haven't messed with an avalon, but all the others on your listen sound like 95% right, just missing subtle tonal diff...

I'm finding the quadrax adds some pretty nasty sounding aliasing type noise to low harmonic content like sine waves or heavy low-passed signals, it's driving me a bit crazy. Also agree that it would be nice to have the shapes be more extreme, definitely wish I could get it more plucky than I current...

100% an Oberheim DMX clap, although there were two different DMX clap sounds, and this is the 2nd clap type they made after the DX was manufactured.

omg this website sometimes...

I literally just got a PM from some random person saying I shouldn't make feature requests because he doesn't want the module to be "more of a pain in the ass to navigate".

:deadbanana:

He doesn't think phase relationships are useful in audio

Not to get too needy here, but also would be cool to have a separate mode that allows you to input an oscillator, and have a thru on A and a phase related wave on B with CV over phase.

well cv would be an added bonus, but no, I'd mostly use sine and cosine, so just manually adjustable phase would be great!

Hey OS, any chance of adding a wavetable mode option to control the ability to shift phase between the A and B outputs? I'd love to use the disting for some oscillographic work, but in an ideal world I need to generate a sine and cosine from the A and B outs, with the wavetable mode you could do som...
