Re: Why is it fun to BUILD modular synthesizers?

It's not just music... It happens whenever a hobby turns into a passion. Cycling: A: Buy your bike in the shop and wrap the bartape yourself B: Build your own bike from a frame- and wheelset C: Weld your own frame, build your own wheels Modular: A: Buy ready made modules and plug into case B: Build ...

Migrate Ableton Preferences from Trial to Standard Version

Hey Wigglers, the Ableton support forum is locked so I figured I'll ask you fine folks for help. My 90 day trial version of Live ran out so I pulled the trigger on the Standard version. Registration went fine but I can't figure out how to migrate the preferences. I have painstakingly named all ports...

Excuse my ignorance but I tried to incorporate Graham's suggestions. Does this look right to you or did I get it all wrong?

Started my first DIY project during the beginning of the pandemic. I've been on a bit of a Buchla tear lately. Successfully built a 266, 281 and 292. I'm wrapping up a 227, and three 258s as well. Photos are a little disjointed, sorry.

Very cool. I'm especially curious about the clap trigger circuit as I have a DR-110 with a broken digital board that I had planned to turn into a modded unit with trigger inputs...

Re: How to ground porperly on a stripboard?

Thanks for your reply! here is what I did if understand your tips correctly. Did I got it right ? Yes, that looks better. General asking - Shall I alway connect the three ground (0v) pins of the power connector? even if eventually I will block two of them ahead on the strip ? Yes, in doing so you w...

Re: How to ground porperly on a stripboard?

Here is an example of a stripboard layout I'm working on. The black wire are the grounds and the greenish marker is show all the connection of the ground. Is it a real problem the way I wire the ground? as you can see I just connect component to ground wherever is available. It is almost impossible...

Re: The 2020 Show Us Your DIY Builds Thread!

the pcb is obviously fixed to the panel by the jacks but i'm curious how you handled the slide switches... I would assume there's a whole panel PCB there (that's how some of the other x0xheart/pacemaker implementations work) which would be sufficient to hold the slide switch. certainly. it's just t...

Re: How to ground porperly on a stripboard?

Generally it makes sense to aim for a star distribution, also on a module level. The goal is to reduce resistance on the 0V line to avoid interference. On stripboards, where a full ground plane is not an option, I'd run separate wires to a central 0V distribution. But I wouldn't obsess over it eithe...

Re: Arduino code issue w/ Pleya (hörbert Clone by Westlicht)

Has Westlicht ever sold any pre-built Pleya's? Nope. If you're after a pre-built one, your best bet would be to purchase an original Hörbert https://www.hoerbert.com/ Unless you skimp on components there's not a lot of money to be saved (especially when taking into account your time). I did like th...

Re: 3.5mm to banana jack PCB or schematic

I would definitely do what Tom Bugs suggested and run a 0V connection to the centre of your distribution. This will provide a common reference when interfacing with external gear. Otherwise you could run into noticeable offsets...

Arduino code issue w/ Pleya (hörbert Clone by Westlicht)

So for my daughter I built this MP3 player for kids based on the Pleya project by Westlicht (the guy who created the Performer Eurorack sequencer). It works fine but there's one annoying issue: The playback state is supposed to be stored in a file on the SD card and retreived after a power cycle. Th...

Re: The 2020 Show Us Your DIY Builds Thread!

I finally found a way of labeling my patchbays that actually makes use of the space available: Laserjet print on adhesive foil and a 10mm hole punch. The punching requires a bit of precision but the result is rewarding.

Re: Akai VX600 Linear FM

So you’re right, the vco fm would be “always on” and either linear or exponential. I figured that wouldn’t be desirable. Ah, of course. It would not be possible to use filter FM without any modulation of VCO 1... It would be great to have a switch between exp and linear, but to be honest I never us...

Re: Akai VX600 Linear FM

Pin 5 of the 4053 is actually not connected so it should be possible to hook the other pole up to the exponential FM input like it's done on the Xpander. However, I'm not sure if such an "always on" mode would create any issues...

Re: Akai VX600 Linear FM

Are you going to give it a shot? I believe it says 10K but the value is probably not too critical... It would be nice to have the modulation switchable between linear and exponential with a switch on the back. But then again that would require flying wires which would mess with the serviceability of...

Re: Akai VX600 Linear FM

That's sweet. I'm really curious about the sound examples. I just compared the Oberheim and VX600 schematics. Your implementation is basically the same as the Xpander but I'm wondering about RX65. Does it make sense to add a pull-down resistor at the output of the analog switch? VX600 vx600_linearfm...
