Re: Hipster Gear Shot Favourites

My gear stays inside with me. It collects the hair, dead skin and whiffs of various stale, malodorous excretions I deposit everywhere. Everything is dusted with particles of my corporeal and psychological essence. A fuzzy simulacrum of a rotten soul left unattended, reduced to a foul-smelling, brow...

Re: What do I do with 500 jacks with a pcb footprint I never use?

Ughhh you guys are making me feel like an entitled jerk. I think I'd rather just give them away than deal with selling them 10, 20 or even 50 at a time. I am again an entitled snowflake because after the last set of CGS Serge panels I did I decided I was never going to do any more hand wiring ever a...

Re: midhub

I really need to spend more time with mine. I ordered it as soon as I saw it. Was basically like "this is the device I have wanted someone to make for the past 20 years" . And then it showed up and though I still really love the idea, apparently I'm not as experimental as I was 20 years ago (or I ha...

What do I do with 500 jacks with a pcb footprint I never use?

They are 3.5mm mono. So ok for euro. But horizontal mount, so not really a format I'd usually use. Design something new that just uses those jacks? A really big matrix mixer? Give them away? Ebay? 500 isn't enough to design a new commercial thing around, and it's too many to design something for per...

Re: SMT assembly houses with good prices and non-green solder mask

anyone here try elecrow for this? i haven't tried them for assembly, but all colors are the same price and their assembly quotes seem fairly cheap. I was just going to mention Elecrow here. Have ordered fully made boards from them a couple of times and they have been good. To be fair it was nothing...

Re: The Definitive Sequential Prophet VS resource thread

Don't own a VS (though I'd like to someday) but was just perusing this thread and was thinking that it might be worthwhile for someone involved to reach out to Chris Meyer and let him know that someone is attempting to collect all this info in one place. I would assume that someone here has bumped i...

Re: Plugged it in backwards :/

No, if they appear to be working properly they likely are. A manufacturer as large as Makenoise almost undoubtedly has some type of reverse power protection on their modules, so it would be very unlikely that they would have been damaged just from being plugged in backwards. Solder joints don't get ...

Re: Help on building a quantizer

So the shortish answer is to get something like an arduino and start experimenting. There is tons of documentation on almost all of these subjects and schematics / diagrams about how to connect almost everything you are asking about. The longer answer will involve a lot of personal opinion because t...

Re: Dave Smith hint of a new synth coming up in August

in nearly every regard except the filter, the Prophet 6 and OB-6 are essentially the same synth. They've the same 'gubbins' and 'brains' as it were but the voice cards differ, including the oscillators not just the filters, and the OB6 has some additional fx algorithms but sure, they're certainly n...

Re: Dave Smith hint of a new synth coming up in August

I always get confused by the DSI line. It seems you have the Prophet stuff, the OB-6, but then every thing feels kind of like variations on the same things, I don't understand the market for that. Clearly they are doing something that works, but.. I think thats a pretty fair assessment about the ol...

Has anyone heard if the cases will be available soon? I may need to make room in my case, and I can easily keep the vector on my desk nearby... Cases are still coming, I don't have any solid details but was just discussing powdercoat options with Jim the other day so I would assume they are getting...

Re: Sputnik Modular (general thread)

i agree - and i was just thinking about of what possible scenario could make sense of it. Here’s where the speculation comes in. The Sputnik Modular modules are based on the Buchla 200 series. It’s possible (though maybe not probable) the whomever owns Sputnik is working with Buchla USA to produce ...

Re: FIVE12 Eurorack Vector Sequencer Teaser

The Cirklon, however, IMO has a great song mode. It also has fills, which I don't think the Vector has. And one big plus for the Cirklon to me is the ability to very speficially punch in retrigs with increasing or decreasing velocity or note value, etc to create nice rolls. This is a critical featu...

Re: FIVE12 Eurorack Vector Sequencer Teaser

Glad it was helpful. Ok one other thing I forgot to mention though. The cirklon uses Cherry MX keys. Which really, you just can't get better than that. Nothing will ever quite match up tp the perfect clickity clackity button experience of punching in sequences on those. Somewhat impractical for euro...

Anyone have a Vector and a Cirklon? How do they compare? I'm up soon on the Cirklon waitless but weighing the pro's and cons between the two. I have both. I will do my best to answer any specific questions you have. Though for full disclosure - I'm friends with Jim and helped out at the Vector boot...

Re: Avoid Mac Mini 2018/20 if using Ableton!

I found that I started to have graphics/performance issues with ableton when I updated from version 9 to 10. I'm on a 2015 macbook pro with a large external monitor, which was always plenty powerful for my needs (and still is). But some change to the graphics processing in Ableton 10 would just make...

For the proposal on the implementation of this, are you referring to technical firmware stuff or just the design of it? I just meant that there needs to be a clear idea of what exactly is supposed to happen and how people think it would be best implemented. I think at this point I have a clear enou...

Re: Very Specific Sequencer Question

I'm curious what sampler you are using (planning to use) that is able to respond to this data? And does it matter that the data you send to it is pitch, gate, velocity, etc... X2 or can it just be one track with pitch, gate, velocity + lots of CC data? Or are using CV? or Midi? or both? Now that I a...

As if to just reinforce why I would love to find a modern day replacement for the ESQ-1. My current "functional" ESQ-1 (as of may 10th when I made my last post here) just crapped out on me. This is #3 Ughh. I'm so tired of hauling these onto my workbench and almost never being able to definitively d...

Re: Akai MPC One

Is there a function to put all pads in the drum program to momentary gate? Go to program edit, make sure you have "ALL" pads selected, then go under the LFO Modulation tab (I don't know why it's here, but it is) and you will find a tab for "one shot" or "note on". Switch it to "note on" and now all...

I've tried most everything available recently in the hopes of finding something that could scratch the ESQ-1 itch without constantly breaking down (I have two nonfunctional ones in my closet) and without being so large. I have'nt found it yet. Blofeld, Peak, Monomachine, Ambika, etc... there just is...

Also - pretty sure there are no "E" DIY systems. Lots of DIY 200 systems. but as far as I am aware only a few people have done any "E" modules that are not Buchla (dougCL?) and they aren't DIY.

When did that happen? :youkids:
