Re: Alternatives to Rings in 2020

Run it through a filter, distort it, run a full voice into it and crossfade between it and the dry voice, run one of the outputs into a mixer with a noise source and feed it back into itself for apocalyptic drones. There’s a hell of a lot to play around with. +100 I’m having a lot of fun running ri...

Re: 2nd Oscillator Opinions

I’m surprised none of the Noise Engineering oscillators (Loquelic, Basimilus, Cursus, Manis) have been mentioned yet. They’re compact (10 hp), feature unique algorithms, and have a wide palette. All digital, but the sample rate is tied to frequency so any aliasing is harmonic. I.e. they don’t have o...

Re: Adding warmth / saturation / crud

I recently got an OTO Machines Boum, and it's beautiful on the end of a signal chain. You can dial in some subtle effects or go nuts with distortion, compression, and low pass filtering. The Analog Heat is a variation on the theme. Although I have a tanh3 (and recommend it)--it's not nearly as flex...

A comb filter? I.e. any sufficiently short delay with high feedback?

Re: Small standalone effects box?

Korg NTS-1. Cheap, tiny, sounds great. Plus you get a free synth with the effects. Only downside is a single 1/8" stereo out.

Re: Looking for a synth

If you’re looking at the MinilogXD, why not the Prologue? 8 or 16 voices, half(ish) the price of the Prophet, and flexible with the SDK.

Re: Effects and Semi-Modular

Are you planning on modulating your effects? Something simple and cheap for end of chain effects would free up more space for things that augment the Minibrute. Like a Korg NTS-1: https://www.korg.com/us/products/dj/nts_1/ Or go whole hog and get a Zoia: https://empresseffects.com/products/zoia As m...

You’ll want a buffered mult to keep the STO in tune with the M32.

Re: Wavefolding and Harmonic Based Rig

I can’t answer your complex oscillator question, you’re going to have to make that decision on your own. The Make Noise STO can vary even and odd harmonics. http://www.makenoisemusic.com/modules/sto Or maybe a Klavis Twin Wave? https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/klavis-twin-waves For mixers, I thi...

Re: Module recommendations

Here’s what I have paired with a 0-Coast: https://www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/66457 I originally intended to use the pair standalone (and wanted to keep the Make Noise theme), which is why there’s an Erbe-Verb—it mostly acts as an end of chain reverb. Which is a waste. I should pull it and repl...

Re: Doepfer PSU3 5V problems (and more?)

I got a response from Doepfer, which was solder on a new IMS-20-5 (I looked at the 5V fuse and as far as I could tell it was intact). Would the 5V LED blink with a blown fuse, or just be dark?

Re: Doepfer PSU3 5V problems (and more?)

Whelp, after having an LC9 with a Doepfer PSU2 and constantly running out of power, I decided to bite the bullet and swap it with the PSU3 in my base case. I thought everything was working fine last night (all three power lights on continuously on both the power supply and busboards) but today I sta...

Re: New gear from Moog, what would you like to see happen.?

I’d like to see (along with a few others) an analog multi-effect in the M32/DFAM form factor. Use the guts of the ’foogers to add filtering, delay, phasing, chorus/flanging, distortion, even something weird like the MIDI Murf and Freqbox (which could also act as a 2nd oscillator the the mother). Thr...

Folks, please do not offer or distribute pdfs of Allen Strange book. The family doesn't allow it, and it's against our intellectual property rules. You can buy it for almost 1/10th of the Amazon price from Abebooks. https://www.abebooks.co.uk/book-search/title/electronic-music/author/allen-strange/...

Don’t forget that VCAs are also extremely useful for attenuating CV, and a filter is going to be less useful for that. Good point! About half of my filters are DC coupled (can't remember which ones). An AC coupled filter is quite useless for CV but a DC one it actually quite handy. It will slew the...

In terms of VCA's, not really sure how I could utilise them in this set up? Probably just the way I approach patchin though. Any specific examples of how I could use them? (Disting has a VCA so could try this out before committing). Thanks. VCAs allow you to modulate the modulator. i.e. use an enve...

I just plugged this in and am running a random Spotify playlist of bad acoustic guitar covers through it. It’s glorious—instant shredding. Now I need to run it into a comb filter for additional feedback hijinx.

Thank you. Makes sense but just didn’t match my mental model of what’s going on. What’s the best way to contribute—just start commenting on GitHub? I can’t program DSP but I can do interface & graphic design—including extracting SVGs from the Mutable Instruments Illustrator files for panel designs.

Use the gate out? I'm not sure what you mean by trigger, reverse trigger, or continuous - are we talking about the same thing? And yes, using an external clock source like a vco square wave with pwm you can get better control. Yeah, I’m using the gate out, but the only options (right click to see t...

I tried this last night, and it sounds lovely. Especially the overdriven filter (I’ve only tried the fundamental modules so far—really excited to try the Mutable set & Turing Machine). Quick question—how do I get a gate out of Seq-3? I see "trigger", "reverse trigger", and "continuous", but nothing ...
