Re: Your Favorite Acquisitions in 2020

I got a little obsessed with older rack effects, the three that really shined for me are below. and one other piece i found inspirational. Roland DEP5 the reverbs are beautiful for me. probably some of the nicest I have at the moment. and I love being able to tweak the rack unit in real time. very c...

The Boss Micro series does some real cool half rack stuff.
I have come to the conclusion that anything Roland is worth getting.. my DEP5 and SDE1000 are very nice.

Re: Old rackmount delays

okay, first test of the HD1000 didn’t seem to work. I had it all hooked up thru an aux/send on my CR1604 AI maybe user error. it’s possible I patched incorrectly, I saw a signal on the unit coming in. need to find a manual online..

Re: 500 Series: Compressors and EQ’s for Electronic Music Production

Just want to add here - Finally got my mics running through the Neve 511. I'd just been using it as a line input to get to understand the silk dial and high pass, holding off on putting a mic in for a bit. Holy cow, I'd just been using a Mackie Onyx mic pre for years. The first millisecond of runni...

Re: 500 Series: Compressors and EQ’s for Electronic Music Production

The WesAudio comp was on my list too. There is so much good stuff out there, I'm just trying to think what do I actually want to achieve, rather than wondering what is everything I could possibly achieve. I don't even know if I will get better results than ITB, but I think I just want to have this ...

Tonelux is now owned by and/or distributed by PMI Audio Group, which coincidentally is where Toft Audio and the ATB consoles are from, and where the modern versions of the Trident 80B EQ came from.
this is all getting very interwoven.... Ha!

Re: 500 Series: Compressors and EQ’s for Electronic Music Production

So what is there in the $300-$400 range that is worth having for a synth player? Used is totally fine. Cause $800-1,000 a module aint happening for me.

Have an API 6-slot box with one 512c for vocals and various percussion. Love it but dont really need another pre.

Have an Ibanez HD 1000 coming. Hopefully it’s interesting, pretty sure it will be as its 8-bit and has a harmonizer.

Re: 500 Series: Compressors and EQ’s for Electronic Music Production

Urgh, don't need another (tempting) 500 series thread! I've been very happy with CAPI & SoundSkulptor kits - indeed, my CAPI 11-space rack is now effectively full & I see that as a natural limit to exploration. Easy to fill when taking things in pairs for stereo. But, these are the DIY routes - rea...

Re: Making the Drumbrute sound better

I think Drumbrute Impact sounds great with the build in distortion, so I would probably like to add analog distortion for bigger Drumbrute too. I had a drumbrute and replaced it with the impact, and I think the impact sounds better, but not just because of the distortion. Ways to make the drumbrute...

very happy these new Circuits are likely coming out. It’s a great form factor and they seem to have nailed the sequencer/groove box format in affordable package. The Tracks model could be really cool if the synth was updated.

Re: Synth reductionism..or less is less

I agree in principle that too much gear can be counter productive but it’s horses for courses as they say. In my particular case, I think I look at new gear to mask my lack of talent and creativity!! All joking aside, there is probably a lot to be said for getting to know a more limited set of gear...

Re: Synth reductionism..or less is less

taken to its absurdity, if everyone gets rid of all our stuff, how are we going to solve any issues of how to use a piece of gear? unless we want to talk about a Modal Craft synth or Pocket Operators? And what do we do with all the cables we have collected?

Re: Synth reductionism..or less is less

You mean buy stuff, use it and get as much out of it as you can and then sell it on to replace it with something else? Yeah i think that sounds like the best way to go about it personally. I don’t usually sell anything, unless I really don’t like it. I’ve only sold a few things off in the past. I f...

Re: Synth reductionism..or less is less

I find this place frustrating. It seems that lots of people just like to buy more gear and then move on to thinking about the next module to buy. I would wager most people who have a set up of some kind could use it to make interesting music. Sure, gear matters, but just buying as much as possible ...
