Re: What can a module give you that no DAW can?

seriously folks, they are both very creative devices. its really just a preference in how you like to create art. my father was a painter and sculptor, and I was a drummer for many years, I will always prefer a tactile experience. the more physical the better. but its just a preference.

"In 2017, 2.8 million tons of selected consumer electronics were generated, representing less than 2 percent of MSW generation. Selected consumer electronics include products such as TVs, VCRs, DVD players, video cameras, stereo systems, telephones and computer equipment." Ugh.. okay when I said in...

Re: Why buy used at recent market prices?

but as said before, we are peanuts in the environmental disposal disaster. leading by example is no good if you are a tiny impacter.... I think that's debatable. For one the reason why the cost of new devices have come down is because the scale of electronics manufacturing has exploded. We benefit ...

Re: Why buy used at recent market prices?

It's noble of people to just accept high used modular prices for the sake of the environment or whatever, but the reason those high prices exist is seller greed (and enough buyers willing to go along with it), nothing more. I strongly disagree. Fact is that the longer any manufactured device is not...

Re: Why buy used at recent market prices?

bottom line for me is that the used prices are out of whack right now. I have never seen such variances in my years observing them. some appear to be wishful thinking the higher prices when listing. I hope buyers are being cautious to what the accept or buyers remorse will set in quickly. check the ...

Re: Put your Album Release into this Thread!

I made a Mort Garson/Isao Tomita inspired record with vocals. I wrote all the songs on piano first and then orchestrated them for modular and synths. It took about 2 years and after all that work, I'm not quite sure what I think about it :hmm: https://johnkelleymusic.bandcamp.com/ this is really we...

Re: Zoom Arq ar-48 now £80 !

Plugging a MIDI-keyboard is really the key to use this gadget in a meaningful way. Just plugged in my Akai MPK mini, and there's no more dicking around with the stupid ring and it's undersensitive pads. Suddenly it actually makes sense to jam with this thing! The ring controller can be given to you...

Eventide Pitchfactor for me. I am not real fussy but there are some things I like to check prior to hitting record.

I would like to believe that all my current pieces will stick around. Ha! seriously, some how issuing a remake of a 40 year old synth has gotten me interested in a Pro 3. genius, I tell ya..

Re: Dave Smith hints at Sequential Prophet 5 Rev4/Prophet 10

Figured I'd pop on here to answer various questions people have mentioned: I'm fairly sure we have PolyAT response but I'll double check that. Obviously it's not a huge leap to go to MPE from there and I'm working on implementing it in the OB6/P6 right now (it's functional, just working on the fina...

Re: SE Boomstar

Boomstars are lifetime tools in my book. I bought the 4075 in 2013 or so - I tried it at the shop and loved the fact I could barely figure out how to get a sound out of it :). It gave me an immediate sense of experimentation. I didn't really know anything about SE, or about the filter homage, but t...

Re: Dave Smith hints at Sequential Prophet 5 Rev4/Prophet 10

I am totally happy with the design as presented. Although it definitely looks dated and not necessarily attractive to me. But the only issue for me is $$$. Just never spend that kind of money on synths. I would have to sell literally half my studio to buy this. Doesnt make any sense to do that. But ...

Re: Dave Smith hint of a new synth coming up in August

Yeah I feel the Prophet 10 is the right way to go. I'm not a fan of my notes being cut off when I don't want. And for the price, the Prophet 10 is a steal comparatively. Man, what a glorious time it to be a synth lover. This F-ing rocks :sb: oh yeah, if i had cash to blow and nobody paying attentio...

Re: Dave Smith hint of a new synth coming up in August

Why do they all insist on this tiresome Nostalgia instead of innovating. 1. Dave Smith has resisted 1-for-1 remakes and instead designed new synths for almost 20 years (the Evolver desktop came out in 2002). 2. The "nostalgic" stuff sounds damn good, and I'm glad it is being remade. 3. Plenty of in...

Re: Dave Smith hint of a new synth coming up in August

This is very cool. The price is not that bad if you keep the darn thing and use it for the 10-20 years. Stings a little at first. This is a really tough call for me. I never shell out big bucks for synths.. Anyways, excited for everyone that ends up getting the chance to have one. And I really love ...

Update rack pics. I am pretty satisfied for now. And like having the spaces between the Rowland units since they seem to run a little hotter. Re: Why buy used at recent market prices?

Getting back to original point--the non-existent discounts on used things seems to be a recent, direct result of Covid. You have a lot of people who are either sitting at home all day with time on hands to buy OR have very little income and so see even $20 off as a solid discount. Seems to be parti...
