Re: Dave Smith hints at Sequential Prophet 5 Rev4/Prophet 10

I am pleased to find that the Vintage knob is not at all necessary to get an organic Ana-poly vibe. Using it only makes it sound more unwieldy “prophet” but really that’s not going to be to everyone’s taste, so it’s great to be able to dial it down. Setting at 3 is about as much as I need for standa...

If you do do this, and you should, please look into and make a chassis available at the same time as kit.

Re: Dave Smith hints at Sequential Prophet 5 Rev4/Prophet 10

.. They haven't said it's a replica or re-issue. It's the next iteration, albeit with a 30 year gap. They've called it a "rev 4" after all. Oh, fair enough, though Dave also says: "Nothing looks like this but a Prophet 5 " .. I think Dave put very well what it is in the intro video of the P5 Rev4. ...

Re: Cleaning smoky gear :(

Using things that absorb or breakdown smells/VOCs (carbon, alcohol... coffee?) will work. Using things with their own smell--dryer sheets, air fresheners--just masks the smell. You could also put it outside in the sun. UV is the ultimate odor/VOC destroyer, although it won't do much to the insides u...

Re: SH-1 vs SH-101

Sh2 is killer... still regret selling it a bit. Massive baseline monster. But it’s a bit less “elastic” sounding than 101, more 70s archaic big electronic sound, so it depends on personal requirements and taste. Sh1, well... I would hold horses and investigate more. There are so many SH type of mac...

Re: Oberheim Xpander and modern analogue synths

Dumb question about the Xpander (which it seems no amount of "meh"ing by wiser wigglers can stop me from irrationally desiring): couldn't one just feed faster or otherwise "better" envelopes into it via, for example, one of the CV inputs? You can do that but a) it will be monophonic, and b) the sca...

Re: SH-1 vs SH-101

It's pretty interesting that while the oscillators and filters changed throughout the lineage, Roland retained pretty much the exact same sound from SH-1000 up to the Juno-106.

Still no response from these guys. Has anyone else asked for a refund?

EDIT: Brian just called me, super nice guy, did a refund on the spot. They sound flat out.
nice one, good to hear! sounds like it's going to be ready toward end of Nov. at this point.

Re: Oberheim Xpander and modern analogue synths

Since the topic of envelopes always seems to come up, here's a demo I did years ago with my xpander. Not fast, but also not terribly slow. Ive never found the envelopes to be an issue. Though thats a nice demo - i think i heard this before, but i ve seen you post in various forums over the years lo...

Re: Oberheim Xpander and modern analogue synths

I found that the Xpander can sound very delicate and bubbly and has a nice sheen. That said, is it just me or does the tonal palette just seems more limited than what would presume by all of the modulation and filtering capabilities? I wonder how much the slow envelopes/lfos plays into this... yes,...

Re: Oberheim Xpander and modern analogue synths

Yeah, that’s a great “Oberheim“ sound. Despite what people try and suggest, the xpander/M12 are from the exact same sonic lineage as all the earlier OBs. I have a long demo that I recorded the other day, maybe this thread will convince me to finally post it. Re:: distortion in the filter, it was rea...

But also, it has already been re-issued. There are kits you can buy now.

Re: Oberheim Xpander and modern analogue synths

Since we're on the topic, can I ask a question of the mighty Ultra Wigglers in this thread? I've kind of been GAS'ing for an Xpander for the last ten years but I've never been able to make myself pull the trigger on one. Something about the sound really does it for me? And its history as a prime so...

Re: Dave Smith hint of a new synth coming up in August

Check out the J3PO demo. It sounds very authentic with effects - instant Japan/Sakamoto. Or Icehouse, if you like that sort of thing ... ;) Yeah, even with effects it just sounds ridiculous. 2020: the year the Prophet-5 and OB-X (VS-1) are both available to buy new. As I live and breathe :woah:

I keep forgetting the Alesis Ion is a thing. It really is a nice little synth. Def a decent choice
I keep forgetting about the Moog One :hihi: Honestly, if I was thinking of buying an xpander or M-12 today, that's probably what I would be looking at.

(Ion is a great synth as well.)

Re: Make Noise 0-Ctrl

I’m considering an 0-CTRL and I’m wondering why is it, as the manual says that “You must always patch at least two cables between the 0-CTRL and the device to be controlled”? What happens if you want to patch only one? Must the two cables be connected to the same module? It has to do with grounding...

Re: Oberheim Xpander and modern analogue synths

I've done what you are doing (finding a "better, more hands-on" xpander/M-12) many times over, from DSI all the way up to the "big" polys, pro-5, new ones like the River, etc., and come up short every time. If you love the tone and mod possibilities, you really aren't going to find a replacement. St...

Re: Miasma-Touchscreen Pin matrix Mini Synthi-ish by PIN electronics

Since it only has one oscillator, how would you use a ring modulator? self-oscillating filter looks like it is being called an "oscillator" as well, so there you go. The synth-e and that other weird dutch EMS-like thing with the minikeys has a similar arrangement. But unless I am missing something,...

Re: Miasma-Touchscreen Pin matrix Mini Synthi-ish by PIN electronics

That looks pretty cool. Seems to be missing some modules from the basic Synthi setup but they may be hidden. The Ring Modulator doesn't really need controls for instance. Also I imagine the touch screen could be programmed to emulate a joystick or other controls not shown in the video. The price wi...

Re: Damn. DFAM.

Just came across the Sonoclast MAFD, looks pretty rad and gets over my biggest issue with the DFAM. I had been doing some creative clocking to get over the 8 step aspect, but this bypasses it entirely. Anyone using one?
