Re: OPERA ROTAS, a DIY mutant drum machine

thats brilliant, thank you. id love a metal enclosure. sorry one more question does it have separate outputs for the sounds? also if youre tinkering with MIDI if it could also send MIDI notes out that would be superb.! Very excited, will def grab one in the next run, thanks for sharing! This sounds...

Re: interesting modern digital synths?

Want to give a shout to the Reface DX/Dtronics controller combo. FM synthesis is pretty much the antithesis of "new", but to date no one has really nailed a proper UI for it because of the sheer number of parameters. There is the Jellinghaus/Dtronics monster for 6-OP, but that just looks painful, an...

Re: Sequentix Cirklon

Is it not really worth getting on the waitlist at this point? i dont see why not. all you have to do is sign up. i have a feeling production slowed due to the R&D of v2 and focusing on getting that bug free. I think they also had to change workspace is at least twice; that definitely put a halt on ...

Re: trade OB8 for Xpander?

good to know, hadn’t heard of the filter differences One thing to check on the Xpander is the filter chip revision—B rev 3372s do not sound as good as C (and probably A or D) and I think are largely responsible for the less than stellar/muffled sound quality that people sometimes complain about. It...

Re: trade OB8 for Xpander?

Funny how many people siding with the OB-8. In 4-pole LP mode the Xpander sounds pretty much identical to the OB8. In 2-pole mode the OB-8 has more of that classic brash OB sound (plus more lively oscillators in general), but then the Xpander can simply do a million more sounds that the OB-8 can’t. ...

Re: dynacord vrs-23 problem

i just picked up a dynacord vrs-23 that has some problems. I will probably try to send it back since im a noob at this stuff, but it would be nice to learn something. in reverb mode i get a low sinus tone at some settings when the density knob is turned past 12 o clock. but it dissappears when turn...

Re: Korg ARP 2600 availability

I heard a rumor that sounded like Erica was involved in another 2600 version. A friend who does promo for them (but also for other brands) told me “you should have waited 6 months” after I posted that I bought a KARP2600FS. You should have waited for a synth you didn’t know about that doesn’t even ...

Can anyone with one confirm: does MIDI velocity apply to all instruments at once, or each individually?

Re: Arturia Keystep pro

can you use the KSP as a polyphonic CV keyboard? I.e., playing 4 different modular voices at the same time? Nothing in the manual seems to (obviously) answer this, I only see comments about programming each track individually, but it's a de facto option I would expect on something like this. That's...

Re: Korg ARP 2600 availability

I have never smelled new synth smell like this! The wonderful smell of tolex glue VOCs. Surprised they haven't dissipated by now. Saying that, I had to leave a new DIY modular case in the baking sun for DAYS to get rid of the glue VOCs. Was really pungent and really not good to breath in. EDIT: Bei...

And thanks to the virus, not all have been revealed. Unless you have a pressing need -or one already on the way- I'd suggest waiting until Fall to go after a KARP2600FS replacement.
Can you share more details? I.e., what about this new one will be better/different to the korg one?

Another product we won't see for 5 years that will have both massive QC issues and will only passably sound like the original.

Re: Roland MPU-101 has parasite impulse at CV outputs ???

Can confirm the behaviour outlined by the OP - for me the pulse lasts about 594 microseconds, max of about 7.5V at velocity 127, -2.9V at velocity 1. mpu-blip.jpg Not convinced my oscilloscope is particularly well calibrated so take those numbers as ballpark. Suggests the timing of switching the mu...

Curious if anyone else has experienced this? Seems like quite an annoying glitch if you’re planning to use a velocity controller.

Re: Building an Oakley ASV 4-Voice: accessory module suggestions?

Looks great. You can always go old school and grab a Roland MPU-101. Back in the day, Roland made a lot of useful 'glue' type boxes for MIDI, DCB, cv/gate, sync, SMPTE, etc. yeah, I kind of regret not grabbing one of these that was available recently. Seems quite useful. Not the right fornat, but i...

Re: Building an Oakley ASV 4-Voice: accessory module suggestions?

Well thar it blows... Now I just need an appropriate MIDI-CV interface. It turns out that the Frostwave Quad needs 4 independent MIDI channels for each of the 4 outputs. Not really idea for poly duties. Kind of bizarre that they didn't including a single channel poly mode.

Re: Building an Oakley ASV 4-Voice: accessory module suggestions?

I created some polysynth patches in the Nord Modular that have intentional randomizing of osc detune, EG rates, filter settings, etc., so that each new note gets slightly altered settings, to try to replicate this effect. I found that varying the amount of this randomization definitely has a sweet ...

Re: Building an Oakley ASV 4-Voice: accessory module suggestions?

^ is this something that could be solved with being able to select "multi trigger" vs "single trigger"? (seems so to me). If so, I'm going to point to the Kenton again. No because if one envelope is being used for the remaining three voices, it will always re-trigger regardless of whether you were ...

Re: Building an Oakley ASV 4-Voice: accessory module suggestions?

One thing I ran into a lot back in the day when I owned an Oberheim 8 voice was the constant adjusting of voice parameters x 8. The filter resonance/ cutoff and mode wasn't so bad, but adjusting envelope times were painful. I don't know if the Oakley has any way to gang up cv control for various pa...
