Re: The AI011 Analog VCO in 8HP is out now!

After having a lot of issues with a Fonitronik Thomas Henry VCO Maximus (PWM tuning, damaged solder pads due to swapping out components) and wanting to claw back some HP in the case I picked up a AI011 Panel/PCB from Thonk as a replacement (using the bits). Just finished the build and doing the cal...

Re: Alternate Front Panels: Get Permission?

I'd like to add some real info as someone who actually does has a trademark lawyer and doesn't want to sue anyone ever. I also worked as a digital project manager for companies like Nike, Apple, and Microsoft, as well as small brands for over 10 years when I had a day job. So I know a bit about bran...

Re: Attenuator Options

I make the AI010, which is a really, really simple switching attenuator that I made so I could put them next to my synthtech oscillators in 2 HP.

Re: Alternate Front Panels: Get Permission?

Honestly, if the scene hadn't become so sketchy, I wouldn't care. But if I allowed it I promise you I would see AI modules with pcb panels for sale on pusherman or reverb that I never touched. Did they buy the PCB form me? I don't know - how would I check? Suddenly I'm competing with myself. I also ...

Re: Alternate Front Panels: Get Permission?

You can always make your own thing for you. If you are going to sell them, you need permission, even for small runs. People always think we makers are making x10,000 unit runs, the reality for small makers is much less. You could be sued for creating brand confusion for selling something that "compe...

Re: Do I need a reamp and a DI box?

Here is a video showing the difference between going direct to and from pedals, vs using an interface (in this case my own AI006 stomp box interface). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXizOs8ySqw&t=3s Mixers can be used to send to effects, because they can attenuate the signal by a factor of 20, whic...

Re: TTSH Ver.3 (rev.8) General build thread

Saw and Pulse outputs on VCO 1-3 at 0 - +10V P-P is normal. The Triangle and Sine outputs on VCO2 should be -5 to +5V P-P. Fantastic. I ran through trimming and all of those sections were good with the exception of the filter. I built mine with the pre-lawsuit filter and it won't resonate. With my ...

Re: TTSH Ver.3 (rev.8) General build thread

Well that's embarrassing... I did leave two of the sliders in the mix section partially un-soldered. They must have just been pressing in against the PCB when I first turned it on. Soldered those and now all the LEDs are all back on. Now I just need to look at VCOs 1 and 2. For some reason those are...

Re: economically friendly analog VCO DIY solution

The AI011 is economical. You can buy just eh PCB and Panel and source your own parts, but the kit is also pretty cheap. 4 buffered outputs, hard and soft sync, and a nice aluminum panel.

Re: TTSH Ver.3 (rev.8) General build thread

Summer is slow for me and since I can't go out and have fun, I decided to finish my final TTSH build and the first for myself. It's a V3 r8, and I finally fired it up. There are a few issues that I'm going to work on but on the whole I'm happy so far. Oscillators are buzzing and things are happenin...

Re: God's Box - Loose Fruit and Lollipop

I just built a small fleet of lollipops (5) and was trimming the FET vs Vactol using my scope to better compare levels vs my ears. They don't seem to be matching well at all though. The FETs are waaaay louder than the Vactrol to the point of clipping. Did ya'll just use ears and this is normal? Ever...

I can't remember the module - it was linked to a performer, but I can't remember the name. No one is remembering that their 2600 "clone" is basically a neutron with different filters*? They don't make clones, they make neutrons with different panels. *citation required. Uses 3340 oscillators and other modern chips "for stability". Their own video states it. I'm building my third TTSH - l...

Re: Best first SMD build?

O+C has a few really tiny parts that can be tough. I do fine with soic and 805 parts, but I am pretty bad at the really tiny stuff. I managed to tough it through my O+C builds, but had to do some reflowing. The Temps Util is all soic and 805 (I think) and it's a great clock module. My AI007 is a mix...
