Re: Thicker sounding attack on kicks (techniques)
When you say you never do post processing, do you mean you only do hardware jams recorded live thru a mixer to 2 track? Honestly if you can get parts into a DAW based environment your options multiply by a ton. And that's what the vast majority of artists you're referencing are doing anyway. My simp...

Has anyone mentioned our own beloved Nelson Baboon?
There is an insane range of brutal noise here, plus the song titles!
Not this track, scroll dooooooooooown....

Re: Mix headroom when playing live
For a mobile extra utility/performance mixer I've used an Allen & Heath ZED-10 FX for maybe 5/6 years. It's built like a tank, is quite, clean, tons of headroom, good EQ, FX are decent, lots of in/outs, USB and has NEVER given me any issues. It's excelled at every situation I've thrown at it. There ...

Re: Mix headroom when playing live
I've gotten some great results with the lower budget Allen & Heath mixers. You've got some great sound sources.
No reason to muck up the signal path.

Re: Mix headroom when playing live
Yes, the 3630 "performs fine" but remove it from the signal chain and compare the difference in sound quality regarding noise floor, high end clarity and overall distortion. I'd wager you're better off without it. I get it, the 3630 was my 1st ever compressor when they were originally released. I ha...

Re: Mix headroom when playing live
I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned, but loose the Alesis compressor. It's a really terrible bit of old (not in a good way) audio gear. Listen to your set cranked up in a live space with and without the 3630 in the signal chain. I'd imagine it's kind of crappify-ing up everything a bit. I'm no...

You've written to Pitt Mod?
I'll check in with them, but it seems in my experience
they always stay on an issue to work it out.

Re: Secret weapon processing (plugins/hardware)
My usual fav for vocals, especially lead vocals
is some form of the Teletronix LA2A
I use the Universal Audio stuff, but I wouldn't start in
with that platform just for the plugin, everyone makes one.
Smooth, transparent and solid compression.
It's hard to go wrong with it.

VRL does a lot more than the O Coast, so maybe better to compare by features, not by price.

PaulStretch... What The Hell?
I've used PaulStretch on and off over the years, but now I can not get it to render, name and find a file. I hit render section, then type a file name in, it runs........ and I can not for the life of me find the file thru any means of search on any drive. It plays and I can edit settings in real ti...

Re: Cell phone noise in microphones?
Great thread, I have an interesting angle on that at my studio. I've been recording a ton of hip hop over the last 30 years. For the longest time rapper/MCs would always bring in their lyrics in notebooks. In the last 7 or so years 95% are reading lyrics off their phones. I've rigged up a little cli...
