Check out Raymond Scott / Manhattan Research.
He was making electronic music using mechanical sequencers in the 50's.

In the back bin of an old-school electronics supplier that should have gone out of business years ago I found some black m2.5 fiber washers that had "shoulders" that separated the bolt from the panel on the inside of the mounting hole -- so there wouldn't be rack-rash on the inside of the panel hole...

Re: DIY Audio Mixer with "LOGARIZING" resistors?
This circuit is used in a DIY kit in Eurorack Tile format. It's never wrong to give builders options -- especially since audio-taper long-neck 9mm pots (used in tiles) can be hard to get. Eurorack modules almost always have buffered outputs -- nobody is going to plug a guitar directly into this. :ba...

Check for local electronics suppliers with storefronts. There's probably a few within easy driving distance. Mode Electronics (Canadian parts distributor) lists these places in BC: http://mode-elec.com/Distributors/Atl__ ... /b_c_.html
And Vancouver has Lee's.

There's a few new guys making 1u Tile modules.
I've been putting out modules to build a complete modular synth out of just tiles.
I had to build a tile-only case because I ran out of rows in my rack.

Iso by itself isn't sufficient. You need to blot it up with something or whatever gets dissolved by the iso will just get smeared around. Try putting a tissue over the area (Kimwipes are great for this), then soak it in iso, then push the tissue around with an acid brush. Look at 10:20 here: [video]...

That's awesome! The panel artwork could use more Uncial and mitered corners. Coincidentally I'm waiting for the PCB for a new stripped-down version of the PrOne Sequencer. I kinda went overboard on the first version: https://i.imgur.com/qzW6Sohm.png I wonder if there'll be room on the panel to add o...

The Generator needs all pullup/pulldowns. The input (Start/Stop) is normalled to 5V (through a pull-up resistor) so that it always runs if there isn't a cable plugged in. It also has a pulldown so it doesn't float (giving spurious random clocks) if there's a cable plugged in one one side and not the...

Thx2112, love the small systems. Is that bottom one square? I hate how much I spend on power supplies but I love smaller "instruments", and mixing and matching them on the table. It's a tad out of square. The case has a custom PCB with power under each module (and a couple 10-pin headers), and is p...

Those are some great looking systems and modules. I've also been sticking to the black aesthetic. https://i.imgur.com/829DLLnl.jpg For full-size modules I experimented with finishes over the past few years and now use a flat-black crinkle powdercoat with tiny crinkles to scatter any reflections, and...

I haven't had any issues with anything there. I found the pots to be better than any of the lower-cost Digikey/Mouser pots. The (large) caps have surprisingly low ESR. I noticed that they started carrying Panasonic caps too. Switches are identical to the CK switches from Digikey (feel and all). Resi...

I have an oven ready to go, but hot air is fast and convenient -- and I can handle tombstones and misalignments as they happen. Single panels are done with a syringe, and batches are done with a mylar stencil. I found that with the stencil there are no tombstones or misalignments (probably because t...

As a builder, I want values on the PCB. There's nothing more error-prone than constantly referring to a BOM. Designations are great for prototypes or for builds where values are preferential for communication purposes. But if you're just putting together a kit and it's not working, a quick glance ov...

Almost there... To make a long story short, had to get the resistor/capacitor values from the final prototypes (RIP), then build new ones from scratch to get photos and make sure the values were right (they weren't). I tweaked a bunch of other component values in the process and fixed some things th...

I used the CAP1188 (two, actually) for the CV Touch tile module . I initially tried using the built-in Atmel capacitive sensing but it was too finicky -- especially in a noisy Eurorack system. The specialized ICs auto-calibrate on startup and the CAP1188 has built-in LED drivers which enabled the CV...
