Grumble -- I just meant that I wasn't able to synthesize it convincingly. Looking at Fitzgreyve's spectrograph there is a lot of harmonics above the fundamental, and a lot of energy below. It's much more buzzy and complex than a pure 60hz fundamental.

Damn, and I thought this wouldn't get any replies! That actually explains a lot, thanks Fitzgreyve... I'll try more first harmonic. I do have a spring reverb, but it's usually being used for more important stuff (e.g. reverb) ... it would certainly work though, it's a bastard for hum depending on wh...

I'd be interested in how this was done too. I was just watching Tony Rolando's video from the Continuucon where he talked about this and was really intrigued by the idea.

Reliable source for creating ground loop/mains hum?

Anyone know of a reliable way to get ground loop/mains 60-cycle hum from a dedicated circuit? I realize this is usually something people want to get rid of like the plague, but I'm looking for a dedicated patch point which produces it rather than having to fuck with a patch cable with one end hangin...

Although I must say Befaco's Kickall and Percall modules seem to make things a lot easier. I've seen similar "drum helper" modules before that integrate the VCA and envelope etc., but the Percall is really calling to me... 4 vcas with decay envelopes under CV control plus a mixer... Befaco has been ...

Good call Guest. Didn't realize Smallbear had em in stock! I have had a few blacktopped counterfeits on the 'bay so I'm always wary of sourcing obsolete high-value ICs.

Just learned Rebel Tech's modules are open hardware... I'm into DIY but have no experience with compiling firmware and flashing MCU chips. Anyone know what would be entailed in something like that? Just thinking about flashing my own Atmel 168 from the code on github and DIYing the rest.

I'm definitely hearing some flanger or LFO modulated delay > 30 ms or so with high feedback. Maybe using an envelope follower or noise gate in the feedback loop. I had a korg sdd-3000 that could use envelope following as modulation source, and with a tight millisecond delay and high feedback it woul...

I was also very into the quake soundtrack and it is probably one my favorite pieces by reznor. It was made during the Downward Spiral / Further Down era and probably utilizes a lot of the same techniques, so researching how that album was made may or may not be useful (there is a lot of stuff online...

I don't understand why people go eurorack only to seek pre-baked solutions. Probably because patching up a snare drum can use up a lot of real estate -- envelopes, oscillators, filters, noise, VCAs, mixers... just for a snare sound. At a minimum it would take pinging a BP filter, blending with whit...

HFA3046BZ --> CA3046 replacement?

I ran across these SOIC transistor arrays here

would these be suitable replacement for a CA3046 DIP package given the appropriate adapter (thinking stripboard)?

Specifically I'm thinking about the CA3046 required in Frequency Central's System X VCO 2.

If DPDT ON-ON switches are used on the pacemaker instead of ON-ON-ON, can I eliminate the "mix" (middle position) functionality while retaining normal switching -- i.e., just switch between square and saw without having the sq/sw mixed position in the middle? Or will this cause some kind of malfunct...

Just in case anyone else is interested, I did find this page on the Doepfer site, which I had never come across before. It explains their vactrol filter, which is essentially a Steiner filter with the diodes replaced by vactrols as I understand. But it shows the basic low pass sallen key, and then t...

I would love to see NLC do something like Grant Richter's Exquisite Corpse / electro-optical mixer (Make Noise RxMx) but with the LDR / lightbox method instead of vactrols.

Yeah, I came across that page searching google. The Mutant Vactrol was several 292c LPGs wired into a Sallen-Key filter topology (in theory anyway). I was thinking with a quad LPG you basically have 4 separate "poles" that could be patched into various filter responses using polarizing mixers and a ...

LPG --> bandpass, highpass response? multimode gate

Hi all, does anyone know of a way to obtain a bandpass or highpass response from a Buchla 292 -style LPG? Specifically I have a quad thomas white LPG that I am wondering if I can mod somehow. I have heard that inverting the LPG output and mixing with the source signal yields a highpass response, is ...

** I meant my whole Euro system is pulling ~600ma TOTAL on a 1 amp supply -- i.e. I only have 400ma capacity left at most. I was worried about if the 4049 in linear mode heating up was drawing a ton of current, it may push my PSU over the edge since all my other modules are drawing 600ma already. So...

Ah hah. Good info, thank you Electrouwe and JimY. :hail: I don't care that it's getting hot other than I thought I had f*cked up somewhere and that the IC would just keep heating until it burned out. Even if that happened I guess it's not a huge deal, but I didn't want to be going through 4049 chips...
