Re: transitioning to Apple silicon

So. an update. I shoulda knocked on wood when I said things were going smoothly. I was making some attempts to force Elektron-overbridge to install on BigSur on the macmini M1. After having luck with doing it on my BigSur intel machine. Now Bitwig will not get input audio from RMEfireface800. Bitwig...

Re: Behringer: practices, ethics, morals and legitimacy.

I don't know, seems like Behringer has had a smaller impact than might have been expected. The flagship Moog products aren't really in Behringer competition (and they haven't rushed out a $1500 Model D), the hottest products of late have been high end (Prophet 5/10) or digital (Hydrasynth). Their c...

I'm approaching 1000 posts. I'm really hoping everyone can help me out so that I can make my 1000th post on the 100th page of THIS THREAD. Instant fame and fortune for me. Here's to the little goals! :guinness: If you make 1000 on that hallowed page 100 then the circle will be squared! I sent uli a...

i personally think you can copy anything in detail nowadays. especially copyrighted stuff. beat the chinese at their own game :-) apparently you don’t understand what the point of a copyright is. Yes. being an intellectual property rights minimalist is a valid standpoint that I have sympathy for. B...

When Uli cloned the Keystep, he proved Behringer to be on the same path that lots of "trolls" were warning about. Where does the cloning stop?

Re: Behringer: practices, ethics, morals and legitimacy.

The main problem is the blatant and effortless copying of products currently in production. It will be interesting to see how this affects innovation in the future as a conundrum of sorts has been presented... Small people with innovative ideas may be hesitant towards releasing a new product only t...

Teach a kid to solder and they will have a job for life making clones for Uli.

Come on guys we can do this... 12 pages in 6 days... just 2 pages a day... and we don't even have to resort to spamming pics of miley cyrus to do it. By the power of Sol Invictus whose rebirth we have just all celebrated, we can do this! How. About. NO . If you don't have something useful to add wh...

Re: Behringer: practices, ethics, morals and legitimacy.

Charity? It can be good. It can be vital and necessary and worthwhile. And it is always hard to shit all over something dubbed 'charity'. But that in itself opens the 'concept' up to abuse. Because who would question 'charity'. One has to consider that any donation of instruments to a school music d...

Re: transitioning to Apple silicon

Screenshot 2020-12-23 at 18.01.21.png So that is my 'RAM pressure' measurement on my MBP with 16GB RAM right now. I find this measure to be a good indication of when things are gonna get cranky. As it increases past 80% I find things can start to wobble a bit. Note that teh pressure is only 23% and...

Re: transitioning to Apple silicon

You can't tell me you can fit 32Gb of data in 8Gb worth of RAM chips. I wouldn't tell you that you can fit 32GB of data on 8GB of RAM. That would be stupid! (I did tell you that macOS wouldn't let you fit 32GB of data on 32GB!! of RAM on an intelMAC ) . It might make the machine FEEL like it's runn...

Re: transitioning to Apple silicon

I don't see how 32Gb operates as well as 8Gb. Sounds like fake news/spin to me. It can't "store" 32Gb of data. It's physically impossible. It matters for large sample libraries which will always perform better straight from RAM rather than a disk of any kind. If the argument is writing data to disk...

Re: transitioning to Apple silicon

Do you mean it can contain 32Gb of data? No. the 8GB seems to operate as well as 32GB on an intel under similarloads. It runs with around the same 'RAM pressure' measurement as 32gb... not a scientific measurement... an impression... but a load of live tabs in Safari, Chrome and firefox at the same...

Re: transitioning to Apple silicon

Got a bottom of the line M1 mac mini... on an edu deal... it is fantastic so far. 8gb ram runs like 32gb on an intelmachine. 256 SSD is pitiful... and Apple are taking the piss with their SSD/RAM upgrade prices... i have a 1tera tb3 ext ssd hooked up as my solution... but the non-upgradeableness is ...
