I hate that I have to have at least one post to send PM's :(

I think either this thread should be deleted, or the stated actions be actually implemented? :hmm:

Out of 46632 members, 21773 have zero posts, that's 47% of members haven't posted once and some have been around for 6 years, maybe even longer! :despair:

Maybe temper it a little bit, like once a year delete any accounts that are 1 year old or older that have zero posts? Since this site isn't supported by advertising I can see absolutely no reason to "pad the membership" and while non-active members likely take up very little room in the database it seems like it would make the database cleaner and easier to manage with out a lot of "Muff Fluff"? :hihi:

A couple super simple SQL scripts or whatever would handle this automatically. For instance on December first one script would send an email to all potential delete candidates that their account will be deleted on January 1st if they don't make a post and then the second script would run on January 1st and delete accounts that were warned and didn't comply with the warning. :burns:

or . . . just delete or lock this thread with the final post being something like "Never mind, we are going to continue to let inactive accounts build up infinitum!" :cheesy: :ghost: :rastanana: :drums: :poke: :bananallama:

Hi John.

Thanks for bumping this. I used to do these manually but no way I'm going through 6 years worth!
I'll add it to my list of things that need sorting out.

Muff Wiggler wrote:Hey, just want to give a heads-up to anyone who may be lurking on one of the many 0-post accounts.

It's cool that you guys are here, really. Even if you don't register, I'm glad you are here and reading. But when people register and never post, I have *no idea* if they are people who are actually come by to lurk (which is totally OK), or if the account is just dead space in my database.

So, here's what I'm going to do...

Starting in about a week from now, every once in a while (probably every few weeks), I'm going to purge all the accounts that have zero posts AND are more than 3 months old.

I won't delete any accounts that have even just one single post, no matter how long ago that was. And I won't delete any that are younger than 3 months, just in case.

So if you are shy and just like reading the forum while you are logged in, no problem. Please make one single post, maybe just saying "my one post so Muff doesn't delete my account". And you've got three months to summon the courage to make this post.

Hope this is all pretty reasonable and stuff. Cheers.

Edit: By the way, if you *do* end up being a victim of the three-month-zero-post-delete, don't sweat it.. the account will be totally GONE, so you can just create a new account with the same name and info. No problem. It's not like getting banned. Just make sure to post within three months this time!
Seems reasonable. I’ll try to be more active.

BTW, this is my first post, but I've read the site many times.

If there is no date/timestamped log of logins that would tell an admin that an account was recently used, at least an email to the accountholder warning them they're scheduled for deletion would be the right way to go. This is typical at registered sites. Maybe a 2 week warning, with a followup warning at 1 week out.

While this site might not be a daily, weekly or even monthly stop, there are surely many of the 20K+ 0-post accounts that people do use less frequently. And even those people are part of the community.
