We go back to the I Dream Of Wires archives for our next episode of Waveshaper TV - a 2011 interview with "Muffwiggler" Mike McGrath, founder of the quintessential modular synthesizer forum/community Muff Wiggler, who passed away on April 23 2019. We put this video together on short notice as a tribute to Mike, the day after his passing. R.I.P. (1976-2019).
I cannot tell you how happy it just made me to see this particular scene. Right behind Mike, those orange things? They're the side-panels I had made for the Machinedrum that I sold to Mike in 2011, sporting the little Dance Robot Dance drawing I made. (The Machinedrum I guess is over there on the left.) The fact that he had them hanging over his beloved Blue Wiard system grins me to no end. Thanks @solvent for making me somehow feel good in all of this. Now I'm gonna go listen to Apples & Synthesizers.

Life/living all by themselves are fleeting. Everyone gets one shot at it .... just one .... take each day as though it's your last, because you never know, it just may be your last day. Treat others how you wish to be treated yourself.

I don't recall where I read this, but .... "when a man dies, an entire world dies with him".

My sincere respects.
This forum has learned me so much, comforted me in my doubts, and made me laugh out loud more than anything else on the internet.
Knowing that the guy who started all that miracle is no longer there, fills me with deep sadness.

All the best, mike.
Why, say she now, is I not glean that one may say of thing while thing is not.

Terrible news.

My heartfelt condolences to Mike's family and those close to him.

Although I didn't visit so often in recent years, this forum has meant so much to me over the last decade as a source of knowledge and inspiration – not to mention laughs (the GIF thread!). And a whole lot of raging GAS.

Mike made all of this this happen. He will be missed.

I met Mike through Facebook, but unfortunately never had the opportunity in person. We owe it all to you, Mike. I am at a loss for words.

I give my deep regards to his family and close friends.

I'm fucking devastated. I don't know what else to say. Tried distracting myself with work yesterday, shell-shocked, and broke down in the afternoon completely.

You will be missed, Mike.

RIP Mike, and condolences to his family and friends.

I never had the privilege of any personal contact with him, but the forum he started has been part of my life and nearly daily routine for since I joined and started my Eurorack system six years ago (feels longer). Don't think I can go a week without at least a few visits here and perhaps adding a post or two-whenever it's been too long, something just doesn't feel right.

Sidenote: had some surgery for the first time in my 64 years (cataract removal in one eye) yesterday on 4/23. Was able to see pretty well even with the clear cover over that eye later the same day. One of the first things I did after opening my iPad Tuesday afternoon was to come here, and was shocked and saddened to read the news about Mike.

So here's a fond farewell to the man who made it possible for me and so many others to come to a friendly (99%+) place on the internet where we found others that shared a special interest (maybe even obsession) in our odd little niche hobby (and $ pit) that most people aren't aware of or don't really understand. So glad to feel a part of this cool (& weird...) community. Thanks again for getting this crazy thing started, MW Mike. And glad to hear your legacy will be in good hands. Wiggle on, brother, wiggle on.

Rest In Peace Mr Mike McGrath

I am a nobody, total newbie here, although MuffWiggler heavy lurking —and so all of you friendly people— helped hell of a lot to stand ahead and go through pretty hard times.

Just watched this waveshaper itw of the Man and it definitely shows how a brilliant and generous lad he was.

I sincerely hope historical admins will make sure this website will go on forever, both for the inestimable ressource of knowledge it is and as a legacy of the genuine non-ego sharing spirit the Founder put into it in the first place.

Long live MuffWiggler

i had originally posted on his Facebook page in the wee hours of the night when i first saw the news.

i took it down after a few mins...

it was so early on after the announcement that i thought it wasn't REAL since it was during the site going down and thought maybe someone was playing a really bad joke.

i bought some noiz weapons from him a while back and he was a pleasure to deal with.

you are Absolutely Elsewhere Mike...may your journey into the void continue to be an amazing adventure.

more noiz!
