Thanks, i'll try. I understand, that trick works due to "Search within - First post of topics only" part? Interesting.

"Active topics" brings me blank page, does it work for anyone?

Not for me, it just says "No suitable matches were found."

You right, it says such words. I haven't noticed.

I like "Active topics" on forums because it doesn't interfere with "new topics/posts from visit"

Apologies if this is the wrong thread to raise this, but the availability of the Search function is limited now. Is this a byproduct of making it available to non-members (you used to have to login to use it), or is there some other reason?

Could you elaborate? I believe the search algorithm changed with the upgrade, but it should be available as normal.

Often I get a 'Search not available. Try again in -x- seconds' message.

BTW, is it possible to add 'Disable BBCode' tickbox to this thread so I can quote properly. Also the edit function.

How frequently are you trying to to search?
The server is set to limit searches to once every 10 seconds for logged in users, or once every 30 seconds for guests. These are the defaults, and seemed reasonable to me.

The Disable BBCode option is there for me, so I'm guessing it's disabled across the whole Announcements forum for regular users. I'll check with the other Admins to see if that's intentional.

I tend to use Muffs like a library; most of my visits here begin with a search for information, but recently that has been more difficult. Therefore I wondered whether there was a problem that had passed unnoticed or a delberate decision to limit searches following the site migration. Thanks for the answer.

Well my first search of the day resulted in this. Maybe the performance of the search facility is not as advertised.

Weird, i usually get this message if i search again after previous search.

However...

If i'm not mistaken, there is a thing that makes me disappointed - it's well known "bug" with search, when it treats browsing pages of results as separate search, which is very annoying, to say mildly. Like, it allows you to see page 1 of results, but you have to wait if you switch to 2,3,4, etc. pages of results of search.

I've lowered the logged in user search time limit to just a few seconds. Hopefully that will help and not murder the server.

Flatscan: just wanted to say that after nearly two months to acclimatise to the new look and system, I love what you've done. The forum is much more usable and the layout is clear and easy to navigate. Even avatars on the right looks normal to me now! Thanks for doing a great job.

Avatars on the right that happen to be an obnoxiously strobing dickbutt will never look normal to me. :)

I appreciate hearing that. Thank you.
"Avatars on the left" is still on my list of things I'd like to add support for. Maybe after the v3.3 upgrade.

For "Avatars on the left" the CSS part could be as easy as this:

.postprofile {
border-width: 0 1px 0 0;
float: left;
}
.postbody {
float: right;
}

I've only tried this with Firefox's Element Inspector but at first glance it seems to do the job.

The question maybe is how to make this individually selectable for each user.

Okay, I know nothing about the software being used, but conceptually, all that’s needed is a Boolean flag for right yes/no. Then a global check when selecting and rendering the CSS. Can that be done?

Sure, If I want to set that for everyone.
But most users are happy with the avatars being on the right. Forcing everyone to have them on the left is no better than forcing everyone to have them on the right.

You're not wrong, but there would have to be a place for users to set that boolean flag and somewhere for me to store it. I'm not about to start adding columns or tables to the database without a much deeper understanding of how it's all handle.

I know nothing about phpBB extension development. Maybe I'll have to learn some. From what I know right now, the easiest way to do this would be to add it as part of a new Theme/Style. But then everyone that wants left-side profiles would need to use that style, so I'd have to copy all the styles into left- and right-handed versions.
That just gets messy, quickly. Not scalable or easily maintained.

Hey Flatscan, this place is awesome! The new forum upgrade has been a huge step forward. Thank you for your efforts.

I think that we are all creatures of habit. Avatars on the left, avatars on the right.. you're never going to be able to satisfy the needs of all users. I think that with this here thread, your willingness to discuss and the issue-tracker, we are on the best way steering in direction of general consensus.

I personally find flashing dickbutts on the right less offensive than on the left.

I've had the opportunity (aka necessity) to read the forum on my phone while on vacation this week. It's working seamlessly on the smaller platform too. So thanks again for your efforts, Rob.
