S-1000 discontinued (now)

Post by metasonix » Wed Aug 01, 2012 8:18 pm

The last one is being prepped for Big City Music. If you want one, you'll have to talk to them.

I just had an epic battle with two parts suppliers: the pots used in the Wretch were discontinued without notice, and they forwarded me to a "new" part number, that is supposedly "a drop-in replacement". We shall see. It is unquestionably more expensive than the old part.

Plus, a batch of knobs were bought from a secondary supplier (primary was sold out), and they turned out NOT TO FIT ONTO THE POT SHAFTS. Surprise, surprise. The supplier claims there's "nothing wrong" with the knobs. Now you can start to see why the Wretch must end.

The R-52 filter is almost sold out, and I am not certain whether to get a new run of PC boards made. It was a very slow seller compared to the other R modules.

Also, the KV100 is almost sold out, and again I'm not sure whether to order more front panels and PC boards. It sold very well at first, not so much in the last year.

It was a good run, and something I will always be proud to have been a small part of.

Why not offer your "retired" designs as kits or even just pcbs for diyers? It would provide another source of revenue on something you've already developed.

I'm glad I got an Assblaster but I'm sad I haven't been able to get a Wretch yet. Maybe some day.

Maybe the unavailability of the Wretch will light a fire under the ass of anyone who hasn't bought an Assblaster yet!

The last one was serial 96.

Please, don't ask about kits. Kits are a support nightmare, esp. for something
full of tubes, high voltages, and parts that are difficult to find.

no more assblaster? The KV-100 and the D-1000 are 2 out of a small few bits of kit I would like to have replacements of just in case anything would ever happen. Sad to hear this  There is just no way I could get the sounds I do from the KV-100 especially with the D-1000 in combo. Maybe one more run or preordered by a certain date?

Eric said something about kits, spread the word.

EDIT: The above is a joke. Please don't get your panties in a bunch.

:*: Actually, Mr. Barbour has published many DIY projects here:
http://www.cgs.synth.net/tube/index.html

They are not kits, but rather schematics with some circuit history, a warm thank you and some hot mulled cider.

I've had very positive dealings with Brian in the past, bought stuff from him while he was a metasonix distributor, etc. Even very recently before that message I was in communication with him and he did say that he (Brian not Eric) would consider offering kits maybe next year. In the mean time he said that he was interested in possibly trading for panels. That didn't come to fruition but I thought we were on good terms.

Then I get this email about how I am warping and twisting what Eric said. It was just weird, passive aggressive and unnecessary. Come to find out, via PMs, I'm not the only person he has sent this kind of stuff to and the others are also metasonix owners. Of all the people in the world to send your abuse to, it shouldn’t be the people supporting you and your benefactor.

So, is the Wretch REALLY discontinued? I heard from someone that they are still being made by request and sold for $3300. I am pretty sure this is erroneous information, but I am just looking for some confirmation either way.

"Someone" is fulla shit. You may insult him if desired.

I sent the last few pieces to BCM. They have put them on the shelf and are waiting for some time to pass, in order to ask even more for them. Roger likes to do this with things that are discontinued.

I CAN NOT make any more. I repeat, I CAN NOT make any more.

That is exactly what I thought. Thanks for confirming, Eric.

On a related topic, since it is discontinued, is there any chance you could post (or perhaps privately e-mail) a schematic of the Wretch? I had so much fun building those early modules, a DIY Wretch would be the shit.

I would really love to see a schematic as well, if that is a possibility.

It's probably #old but there's a pic of what could be the future of the Wretch, unveiled at next Namm, on the website...

Oh, fuck YEAH!!!

I was just going to post a thread about the idea of Eric Barbour putting his mind to a portable tube synth. I'd love to take my Wretch out with me but simply won't gig with it.

I hope that this thing is small like a D-1000/KV-100 format box. Or my dick.
