What is this "4U" you speak of?

4U refers to the panel heights of Serge and Buchla synths. In this case, they’re referring to Serge specifically.

Thanks for the explanation. I understand that 4u is taller than Eurorack (3u), but is there any advantage, given that the vast majority of modules are built for Eurorack? Or is it just about wanting to provide Metasonix modules in other sizes? I'm just curious.

Serge uses banana connectors instead of 3.5mm TS phone connectors. The advantage would be not having to use have your Metasonix in a separate case when using them with a Serge synth, and not having to worry about grounding both cases from each other since banana plugs don't have a ground.

Are there still any plans for another run?

There's one available on Reverb right now.
That's probably the among the more reasonable prices you'll ever see for one too, including if it were to ever get a reissue— and I wouldn't hold my breath for that.

:hmm:

It’s the second highest price a seller has ever offered on reverb.

In the extremely unlikely event there is a reissue of the R-56, or a new Metasonix reverb, I would really love to see it in 4U Serge format. Have one for my Eurorack rig already, would give several major organs to have one in 4U. Given the size of the R-56 PCB, it would probably have to be M-Class panel size, though, instead of the R*S 4x4 that the current Metasonix Serge stuff is using. Maybe an R-56 combined with a RK2 in M-Class format. That would be the bee's basitarsus.

Well considering that it was more expensive than the rest of the R-series to begin with, as well as the fact that a couple of R-53s have sold for $600 and an R-52 for $700 recently, I thought it seemed reasonable. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It ended up selling. I'm not looking for it yet as it's too big/expensive to justify adding yet. later once my case has a couple more of the basics covered and I finish consolidation to one case I'd likely be down to pay a higher price for more features.

it's too bad there's no chance of a perpendicular PCB with narrower panel. or bantam jack's! I understand these features are probably not popular. I have a few "eurocard" style modules so depth is not an issue. I could maybe do larger format as I have a few Haible PCBs to build and haven't decided on panel yet. I may be able to work them together into a larger panel though I don't want to incorporate bananas. I am trying to go more the way of balanced jacks and the feel of patching with bantam cables
