Hmm. The website is coming up “not found” but the domain name seems to still exist. Maybe the hosting company is having a bad day?

Things have been getting quieter in Blacet land. I hadn’t looked recently.

I dearly hope I'm wrong but I'm fairly certain. But my information is only from the internet, I have only had a handful short email conversations with John and have no inside information.

Blacet's address is Lakeview, and his last login here as 'fracmonkey' was 21/06.

That sucks. RIP John Blacet, long live Blacet. My first modular order was from Blacet over 15 years ago.

That’s terrible to hear. He was always nice and helpful when communicating and has made some great modules. Some are still among my favorites

WTF?????

Blacet was my intro into modulars around 12yrs ago. I still regret selling my system.

So sorry to hear this.

RIP John. Thanks for all the audio adventures.

This is awful news to hear!! Sadly it looks legit; there's also references to his blacet.com email on some gliding sites, etc., so he was part of that community.

On June 19th there was a cryptic email sent out to the mailing list:
Subject: Blacet Research News: Order Window Closed

Sorry, closed for now.....
I figured it was in reference to the FX3030 being discontinued, as the website was still up... but it went down a few days later, and then came back up. But now the DNS record is gone (though there's still a record for email).

Really saddened to hear this. I didn't know him well, or arguably barely knew him - he never ever mentioned anything personal. But his designs, contributions, and inspiration to this community were immense. My thoughts & condolences go out to his family!

As it sounds like the guy on the gliding site is in contact with John's family, I've written to him asking him to please extend our condolences to the family and ask if there's any way we can help as a community.

I'll let you all know if I hear anything...

In the meantime I'm listening to some great recordings made possible by Blacet circuits! RIP!

Very sad to read this - John was a great designer and a very helpful guy. Be good if someone could change the thread title.

RIP John, bought my first ever modular module off him in 2002 I think. Always great service, designs and prices.

That's very sad news indeed.

Perhaps he was the betamax to Doepfer's VHS?

Anyways, always had a load of respect for his wonderful unified system!

Damn, another synth legend down. I always wanted to try a Blacet system, but ended choosing Eurorack as my first modular instead.... I sometimes considered selling all of my Euro for a "back to basics" Frack rack, but went with diy Serge after Euro. What a bummer. Rip John.

That's a shame.
I never had need to deal directly with him but I always enjoyed the Blacet modules I owned over the years.

Another big loss for the electronic music world.

I didn't know anything about John beyond his modules (not sure anyone did), but they were always great designs that made them highly functional and usable.

Condolences to his family and friends.

Just back from my holidays and that's sad news.

The Blacet Time Machine was my first DIY project and my first step in my move from Euro to Frac. Pretty much one of the most underrated designer of synth circuits.

Sad.

What sad news. Rest in peace John Blacet.

Besides his great modular designs, Didn't he design the "syn-bow"? It was a unique controller/synthesizer.
