frac Synthtech conversion face plate diagrams?

Post by chachi » Wed Nov 20, 2019 11:22 am

i was waiting to find a Morphing Terrarium in frac but the price was too good on a euro unit with expander so i plunged. super stoked to find the MTA connector already on the board for frac, i’d like to convert it over. looking through the archive.org versions of blacet.com, i found a time period where john was selling frac faceplates for these ST euro units. obviously these would be hard to find, but i found john’s 1u faceplate diagram for the window comparator super handy and was wondering if such a diagram existed for the ST units. it would easier than trying to graph such a thing myself from the euro version.

+1. Would be interested finding this as well.

I would be interested in a panel from this project as well if you make one anyway chachi...

btw i have a F355. (Not a diagram or fpd for F350 or F355 tho)
But I could scan it /photo it together with measurement tape for reference or do something if it helps?

they do not have the same faceplate but most of the things translate pretty well (the 8 jacks and and least the left side of the knobs. (of course not the legends of the knobs...ie what they do)

the pics from modulargrid show what i mean (but they are not the same size there  )

EDIT: One way to make sure in general and double check is to print your fpd to paper and layer that on top of the euro plate to see if it matches.

I'm not aware of any diagrams. Paul might be able to provide drill diagrams.

Yeah, John sold the faceplates for a while, but then discontinued them and took the remaining ones (I have no clue how many) to the recycle plant.

I stupidly never bought any... I since managed to end up with a Morphing Terrarium and a Cloud Generator (completed modules [edit: in frac format], not panels), and am still kicking myself for not getting panels for the series.

Maybe Synthcube could do a short run of conversion panels for those of us who missed out on them? I’d definitely be up for a few.

These boards are the same ones that were used for the initial euro rack ones.

Maybe Paul or some other euro rack person could provide the euro rack panel placement/dimensions or a FPE panel. With that all that needs to change is the panel size and mounting holes.

When I did BugFrac E350 I did a whole new panel design to incorporate CV attenuators & bring out the option switches - had to do a new board design to hold the panel components:
