Some new Frac Modules

Post by werock » Tue Aug 11, 2020 5:06 pm

After John Blacet passed away, I found it pretty difficult to source new Frac Modules, so I decided to make some of my own. I fabricated PCBs and panels for some modules I wanted in my system, and was happy with the results.

I thought I'd offer them for sale to everyone else as well, as the Frac market is currently pretty thin, so have created a website detailing the modules, and have them for sale on Tindie. What I currently have:

01 - Voltage Utilities This is similar to the old Tellun Corp MOTM Dunsel module, with a few changes.
02 - SSI2144 VCF. This is based on the Electrosmith smd submodule.
03 - 3 channel attenuator. Does what is says on the tin!
04 - Mini VCO This is based on the Electrosmith smd AS3340 submodule.

They are all single frac width modules, available as a PCB/Panel set with build docs. The panels are PCB material.
Note that the build docs are not super detailed, they consist of a parts list/BOM and any relevant info required to build the modules, but they do not have step by step, component by component instructions. It is intended they will be built by experienced builders. But if you have built a Blacet module you should find these easy. All jacks/pots are board mounted, there is no wiring involved.

:sb:

Its a Frac Renaissance :)

looking forward getting the ElectroSmith based modules ... (radius-02 & radius-04)

already have the Radius-01 Utils one and its great!
it certainly offers functionality not found easily in this format.

When I am back from holidays i will try to make a video of it.

I have a a few of the electrosmith submodules so I plan on getting the Rad-02 and Rad-04. Is it ok to run those submodules on 15V? It looks like it is from the datasheet but electrosmith includes a 12V regulator with their 3340 and 2144 5U kits?

Yes, they run on 15v ok - the datasheet specifies they can accept up to 18v. The modules are just an implementation of the datasheet.

Cool! Nice to see some new frac action. I built a couple modules from the earlier versions of those electrosmith submodules, I find them very handy. :tu:

dang, wish the shipping situation wasn’t so upside down. almost as much as the board/panels.

I took a look at the shipping rates, and was able to adjust them down by quite a bit. Not sure what I was looking at before, maybe the extreme heat had frazzled my brain :despair:

Just wanted to say that if anyone wants any of these before the year end, they should order within the next week.

For those in the U.S., the last tracked order took 8 days to arrive, but I wouldn't want to guarantee that as we approach Christmas.

For those in the EU, no one yet knows what the situation will be on Jan 1st - it might be fine, or packages might get held up for ages. Ordering in the next week will avoid the uncertainty.

I've also added a transistor based mixer to the lineup:
https://www.modulargrid.net/f/other-unk ... tage-mixer

I'm not offering PCBs for this atm, as I got one of the transistor footprints wrong which makes it a bitch to solder, but I have a few assembled available. I hope to order some more boards with the footprint fixed soon.
