PLL for Frac plz!

Post by parasitk » Wed Dec 31, 2008 12:35 pm

So dougcl's PLL video has left me with PLL-lust. (damn you! )

Sooo I charge some brave Frac manufacturer to bring this lovely device into Frac-land. Something similar. Gimme gimme!

:help:

(no, I won't go Euro!)

Hmm, I'll look into it.
Out of curiosity, why won't you go euro?

because he hates the Queen and has a slight distaste for Hitler.

A bunch of reasons, some of them rational, some of them not. :P

For years it was the cost of entry (Euro-Rack + PSU) being just ridiculous.

Nowadays there are some Euro manufacturers I'm interested in, but still I just don't want to have so many formats to worry about. I'd rather manufacturers support multiple formats, but I realize that's often a major pain, or just not realistic. I'm doing Frac, and one day banana (Modcan + Serge).

Honestly though, a FoH PLL module would be sicker than a really sick thing! :sb: :sb:

LOL

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I like it.
I'd call it the "Attention Deficit Disorder" module, as it just can't lock onto the subject 'cause it's going either too slow or too damn fast! :hyper:

Yeah that's the thing in that video that I love so much. It tries to track and often fails, but the failure is still so interesting to hear. So fucking cool. :sb:

Like I said, when it fails it wins! It's a great clip - I blame you for all this!

The PLL is great. It will never leave my case.

The best part of it is when it's set up to mis-track. It can make some wrecked sounds.

It sounds pretty good not filtered at all, which is the way I usually use it.

Chris, if you can be fuqt, it's probably highly likely that you can run a Doepfer PLL off a ps500 by modifying the ribbon cable so it terminates in 3 or 4 wires, and a 4 pin power connector. I've seen a diagram showing how to do it, but can't remember where it is, but it's a straightforward modification. Then, replace the doepfer faceplate with a suitable black one. I'm considering doing this to the PLL too, but more to integrate into my own synth that i'm building, which runs off a ps500.

I wonder if this can do any of the doepfer style mistracking.....

There's a drawing on this Blacet page showing how to do it:

i tried to resist going euro, but the malekko stuff convinced me.

at the moment I'm just screwing a few modules into a blacet rack and its working fine. I had to drill some new holes though. I currently have a noise ring and doepfer bbd in there. I'm hoping to not need a euro rack at all.

It only took me an afternoon to build a little regulator and run a doepfer bus board from my blacet PS. no reason not to do it really!!!! :tu:

edit* I forgot to add > PLL is on the list of essentials!

I'm in the same boat.
FYI Some of the Euro PCBs make the most of the rack dimensions and are just barely too big to squeeze into a Frac rack.
You're going to end up eating some discounts if you ever have to resell those Euro modules with Frac mounting holes.
Why not just screw them into wood while you are waiting for a more permanent solution?
I'm using Schroff racks for starters.
I'll probably disassemble them to use the rear rails as fronts too and double my HP.

That would rule if there were a PLL available in Frac.

aaahhh, I see.
That is a much better way of approaching the problem.
My mistake.
