Doepfer A-187-1 VC DSP Effects

Post by gliiitches » Sun Mar 30, 2014 3:49 pm

Installed one of these this weekend. I did a search and didn't find a dedicated thread for this module - which is a shame as it's great!

The effects has a certain 'character' and aren't the best sounding - certainly not going to rival Eventide; they are more like Boss pedals IMO.

But they're perfectly useable and interesting in their own way. I particularly like the 'verb & delay' settings, and the CV control of parameters adds life and movement.

In fact, I'm tempted to get another!

Anyone else using this module?

I use it, it's true that it's a nice unit, I also like the delay and pitch shifter :tu:

I picked one of these up a few weeks ago.
It sounds way better than I was expecting.
I bought it mostly for the delay, pitch shifter, and distortion.

I am surprised how much I am using the EQs. Didn't think I would use those at all. I am finding it useful having a few different EQ options in addition to my filters.

It offers a lot for the price and size.

I bought a Tiptop Zdsp with the 4 commercially available cards the same week. No real overlap. I like the Doepfer just as much. They are totally different sounding. The 2 modules complement each other well.

I would suggest one of each instead of 2 Doepfer.

totally agree, z-dsp is a better compliment than another A187

Surprised this doesn't get more of a mention, some great sounds in the unit from the audio on the Doepfer site.

For those that have it, how fast is the CV response? Wondering mainly for the pitch shifter.

Any thoughts on the A-187-1 in late 2015?

I'm rebuilding an all-Doepfer system. I have some quality outboard/pedals, but I'm wondering if I could substitute some of my reverbs/delays with this fella? I know it's not an Erbeverb, but perhaps it sounds good still? What about its short'ish reverb? By feeding it back in it could be made longer? Would you get the A-187-1 or a A-199+A-188-1 combo today? Price is more or less the same.

I'm not interested in Clouds or, in fact, modules by other makers at this time.

Thanks!

So, I sold this module and am now thinking of re-buying. But it seems to be out of stock everywhere and Thomann no longer have it listed as a current product. Has it been discontinued or is a new version on the way, I wonder?

here :) - couldn't find any info.
Dead link. I'm assuming whatever that was, Doepfer decided it wasn't ready after all? :despair:
