I loved my old HO before I sold off my whole modular, but now that I’m back in, I had to pick up another one. Installed at the same time as my new QPAS, and having a great time.

What modules are people using to “play” the individual harmonics?

I like sending (attenuated) clocks from the tempi at different rates to play the different harmonics!

I just put my for-sale Varigate 8+ back in the case, and might keep it now. Clicks like crazy, as one would expect, so I guess I need more envelopes. But man is it easy to create something nice with this combo.

Here's a little sequence for a rainy afternoon. Verbos Harmonic Oscillator is the only sound source.

I have never tried the HO but i really like the sound of it. How does the harmonics sound played with different tonal scales? I mean, can i always be sure that they wont sound out of tune regardless of what scale i have restricted my notes to the 1voct to? Or does the harmonics relate to the harmonic minor or major scale?

The harmonic series does not map exactly to 12 tone equal temperament, so one or two of the harmonics sound like they are out of tune. This however can work in interesting ways.

For something a little bit different...
Verbos Harmonic Oscillator is my rock'n'roll band!

Last week I played a gig based pretty much around a single Verbos Harmonic Oscillator. The only additional source is Verbos Complex Oscillator providing that pseudo-clap. This is a live recording of a song from that gig:

I've had my HO for a little over a month now. After many, many hours of experimentation, a humble offering of something worth sharing :drinking:

So since there is no dedicated thread to the HO, I hope you don't mind that I ask a question here for owners.

The CV input; do you find it extremely hard to zero the attenuator? It seems that I can dial it close to zero, but at that point I have to practically breathe on the knob to make finer adjustments. It's almost like it's a logarithmic curve on the cv values.

Am I alone here?

I am also one to be enamored with this beautiful oscillator! It is a magnificent piece of analog art.

I've already posted the album this is from in the Verbos thread (ahem), but here is a minimalist, rhythmic ambient track that is only the HO running through a Sisters and Mimeophon:

A sense of polyphony created only from the different harmonics being overlayed by long, clocked delays. So much sound from this combo! So much from so little!

First of all, very nice piece. Soothing pace with edgy tonality. I'll definitely listen repeatedly.

What does 'in duo' mean? Does it refer to two HO outputs?

thanks zengomi !
By "in duo" i meant that the HO and the TS are the two sound sources of this song. The TS is used as a delay.

This is so good. How are you sequencing and modulating the HO? There are some incredible timbres. Nice work

Thanks yobink ! There are indeed some flute/hautbois/cello timbres in this patch. That's why i like the HO. As far as i remember, the wogglebug mk1 is the master clock of the patch. The WB clock is modulated by an lfo. The stepped CV out of the WB is attenuated and sent to the Argos Bleak as quantizer (triggered by the master clock). The first output of the the ABleak is sent to the V/Oct input of the HO.
I’m not sure if the HO is FMed a little by a hertz donut mk1 but what is sure and important in that patch for the timbre is that the HO is sent to the Addac 703 (=CP3 mixer) with drive + feedback.
The different inputs of the harmonic section are modulated by a Kermit mk1 and some harmonics are triggered by a an Addac probabilistic generator + Addac switch sequencer (clocked by the woggle bug). Hope it helps !

I have a HO, which I love. I do sometimes lust for CO though.
HO has both exp and lin FM, which I like to modulate with LFO/VCOs via a VCA/LPG/Moddemix - mimicking ModBuss behaviour or to modulate the output for some AM or RingMod. Mainly using Atlantis as the 2nd OSC. If you modulate the other parameters on HO, you can get some very complex and crazy results that way.

Anyone using their HO as a Complex voice sometimes?
