Drone Ambient Modules?

Just wondering if anyone has any advice with modules that help create interesting drones/pedals.

Obviously I can make these sort of sounds out of almost anything (which I already do) however, I'm sure there are many other modules out there that I haven't yet tried.

I find its very easy to make dirty/granular sounds with my setup but I'm looking for something a bit more smooth and pleasant, rich in harmonics evolving. etc...

The Synth Tech E350 fits this purpose perfectly. Get some attenuators if you are going for the E350, cos the greatest rewards of using the E350, comes with using subtle modulations.

Shapeshifter. All the evolving, layered, harmonically rich drones and textures you could ask for. It can be lush (detuned/chords with wavetables, resonator/delay or glitchy/noisy w/ analog wave folding.

Definitely the e350. Modcan dual frequency shifter is great for drones too especially running the pair in parallel with an unprocessed/processed elsewhere oscillator.

Oh and reverb. I use a Strymon BigSky but there are lots of great options

+1 for E350 ... I have 2 of those ...

... but you MUST use some attenuators with this module , and use slow modulation ... imho

shapeshifter can be pretty awesome too

and I run everything through my space reverb for drones

Any Harvestman, Intellijel or mutable instruments modules that would be good for drones?

MI Braids in the WTx3 mode with slow modulation does a good polyphonic job. Love it in combo with Doepfer Waveshaper and Synthrotek EKO :]

+1 I like the e350/shapeshifter/braids recommendations.

I would also put out Epoch Modular's Benjolin on the list. I am getting one just for that purpose.

+1 on the Shapeshifter. I've only just got it and drones are all have been using it for so far. It's so good in that department that it's distracted me from exploring any of its other features

Seeing your modular I assume you use a fair amount of external signals to run through it. Try hooking up a EHX superego before it and run anything into it. Instant drone galore.

Another vote for the Shapeshifter and the Echophone. Gotta have delay. Pitch shifted delay even better. You might throw a LPF (I find my Aion 904a warms things up nicely) in as well before or after the delay. And a lush reverb like the Strymon Big Sky (I unabashedly am obsessed with Strymon) or maybe an Erbeverb? A slow modulation source like a quadrature LFO or Doc Oc to give it some movement.

+1 on the Patch Chord, I just got one and it's already provided some fine droneage.

Not sure how to use the Benjolin for drones exactly -- it seems kind of gnarly, soundwise. Maybe as a CV source? In any case, wirelesswine, let us know how that goes!

surprised no one mentioned the erbe verb yet. no input erbe verb is a drone beast. check out this video leisure cove posted the other day. also braids has a lot of options for droning out too.
