I wonder what 'record' does? Is that thing also a sampler?
Disappointment with any module is usually a failure of imagination.

nw1 is our debut product for the popular Eurorack format. It includes an advanced wavetable engine with independent control of spectral envelope and noisiness – just like Nave.

Wavetable scanning is cyclic with optional modulation of travel speed, position, spectrum, and more besides. By providing the worshipped Waldorf wavetable set from the classic Microwave and Wave synthesizers, nw1 will enrich your Eurorack modular system as a potently powerful sound source. The nw1 sound engine also allows for onboard creation of user wavetables via time domain multiple foldover analysis. All you need to do is connect any sound source to the nw1 to transfer audio into a wavetable. Or use the integrated speech synthesizer to translate typed text into wavetables.

Wavetable synthesis is an extremely powerful sound source suited to producing all kinds of vivid metallic hues and digital clangorous tones. It can create organic, bell-like timbres, as well as spectacular-sounding scans through various waveforms with truly ear-opening results. It was almost impossible to create these kinds of sharp-edged, digital sounds back before the invention of wavetable synthesis in the late-Seventies.

Starting with the wavetable synthesizers of those days, a whole new sound palette left its imprint on so many hit records. Today, with Waldorf‘s neatly-sized nw1 Wavetable Module, this sound is readily available for the popular Eurorack standard – sounding just as pure, sharp, and massively destructive as it did back in the golden days of digital!

Might be a stupid question but how does wave table synthesis differ from granular synthesis in this scenario?

yes please!
:sb:

I hope they get the guts right with this one. I've wanted to buy a Blofled since it came out, but so many bad things about the various OS revisions kept me away. Hopefully this is simple enough not to screw up.
(no hard feelings Waldorf, Moog has had plenty of issues with firmwares as well, it appears to be a modern condition).

I always feel bad putting wavetable-ness on my recordings with a PPG softsynth after I recorded everything else with hardware. The vegan synth police will eventually catch up to me. This solves all that. And will also be a great excuse to build another step sequencer, VCA, filter etc.

ps hope it's less than a waldorf!

OT for the record. Blofeld is pretty solid these days. They did another OS update over the summer that seems to have cleaned it up. REally enjoying mine.

Now this has my interest! Maybe when my new glasses come in I'll appreciate the smaller modules better... but I like that it only has a simple 2-character/number LED display, with a decent-sized dial, instead of a small pot with several character display/menus', etc.

And it can record user wavetables!

Old data, Blofeld is pretty much finished now, can't comment on multi mode, but I always run out of voices too fast anyway.

But pretty much all the bugs are gone and there are quite a few nice software editors out there for it too.

Depending on the price ( please be :75: ) I'm going to get like four of these and a dot com 1/4" - 3.5mm panel. The only other thing that had come close to making get Eurorack is Verbos. I love Waldorf! Hopefully they will come out with a ppg/comb filter next

Damn! I was just talking to a guy yesterday how awesome it would be with a Blofeld in Eurorack format, and today this. Crazy. Doesn't fit into the plan, though.
