iPhone to modular?
Hey all!
What is the preferred way of getting sounds from an iPhone into a eurorack for processing? I assume there is a level discrepancy but is that all?
Thanks!

Personally I just go into a mixer then send the signal to the modular via a pre-fade aux. I deal with the gain difference in the mixer.
There are specialized modules for this like the ADDAC804, albeit pricey.

The most "Eurorack way" might be the ADDAC 804 Audio Integrator module.

I'm sure you're looking for something far more practical though.
Figured drooling over more gear is always welcome here.
Now I'll let someone reply with something more practical.

I used to use a couple of the Doepfer A-119 external input modules. The module adds a envelope follower and a threshold gate which is very useful. Then I made my own module :

Thanks for the suggestions! I have looked at the Addac iOS module but it seems to be a bit more than I need. Their Bluetooth module (ADDAC806) does look like a possible solution, however. I'm also interested in the SSF PTG. It looks like a very versatile module, but do you think that it could provide enough gain for this purpose?
Also, that's a pretty neat setup you have there James!

Both Tenori-On aps - TNR-e and TNR-i
The Propellerheads apps Figure, Take and Reason Compact.
All the Eno app - Bloom, Trope, Air, and Reflection
The Launchpad app - Launchpad, Groovebox, and Blocs Wave
The Thicket apps - Thicket and ThicketClassic
and a bunch of odd one like Mixtiki 6, Droneo, Retractable, Xythesizer, Animoog and more. Lots of free app for the fun of it.

Two things come to mind:
ExpertSleepers ES-8 would be s great option if you’re doing a bunch with apps (Audulus for example)
Folktek Synesthesia (plus stereo splitters is the best option if you’re just running samples from your phone. 4 inputs feed 4 audio outputs (boosting volume) and 4 envelope followers! I love mine to death and it’s a critical piece in my workflow.

I do a lot of my music on iPad, and I can talk for days about iOS music apps.

nothing worth to add from my side. Maths can attenuate and amplify, and a good mixing desk helps too.
I guess Endorphin.es Cockpit is a very good solution, although I haven't got the module yet. I use a Tascam iU2/iPad2 combination since years, which is situated right next to the modular system. I use this iPad mostly for MIDI sequencers, but occasionally it serves as an effect device and oscilloscope. Or all of it at the same time (an iPad 2nd generation is slow, but still capable to handle several apps at the same time - switch between oscilloscope, sequencer, and audio efffect).
Recent iOS devices with their USB-C port change things. With USB-C you can attach any USB-C hub, and any Class Compliant interface. It has become even more interesting today to get such a device for audio purposes only.

Throwing another vote in for Mutable Instruments Ears. A really versatile module in a small, cheap package.
As others have mentioned it's great for boosting line level audio to modular levels, generating gates and triggers but it's contact mic is also very useful as an input device. I've used it to remotely record CV on the SDS RIT_M(essentially giving this module a 3rd pad), modulating Manis Iteritas and BIA and a lot of other performance based actions. It can also be used to re-set clocks for fun beat shuffling and don't forget it's perfectly paired with Rings and other ring modulators to create cool sound fx.

Re: iPhone to modular?
Yup the ADDAC806! I've paired this with an iPhone Touch and it was easy! The 806 is an awesome module, often overlooked hidden gem!cvidalon wrote:Hey all!
