My Disting Mk4 appears to have developed a problem.

I'm using it a lot as a sample player, in the Dual Audio Playback with Z Control algo. I've got the latest firmware installed.

I filled it with a bunch of samples, they all worked fine for a couple of months. But recently one of the samples started playing back small bursts of noise. The sample was maybe about 10 seconds long, but every so often it would just blast out noise.

I deleted the sample from the SD Card and replaced it with the original from my computer. All good.

But then the same thing started happening on a totally different sample.

Any ideas for anything I could do here? It's not the end of the world, I can just replace them with the original when it happens, but I'd like to be able to solve it so that it doesn't happen at a gig or something.

Sounds like your SD card is failing.

Thanks for the quick reply! Luckily I bought two of them so I'll try everything on the other card, see how that works out. Cheers.

Os, are there any plans in the future to have cv input expanders for the Disting so that extra parameters can be cv modulated? With this you could combine some of the algorithms which I guess currently have to be separate due to the limited number of inputs.
You could do this currently via MIDI. In conjunction with a CV to MIDI module (e.g. FH-2 or General CV) you would then have CV control.
That did cross my mind at one time - so I would connect the General CV midi out to the midi in of the breakout module connected to the Disting. So I guess with the FH-2 (and FH-1) I would hook those up to midi outs and use the X & Y inputs.

So the clockable wavetable envelope algo, if you clock it, it will repeat the wavetable(s) and if you're just using the trigger input it's a 1-shot?

How long can each envelope sample be? can i use the adventure kid wavetable wav files as a reference or can they be longer than those?

Has anyone found a good envelope creator (plugin or standalone?) Preferably one where you can export this envelope directly as a .wav (without e.g having to figure out how to render it to audio and then export). I already have Gatekeeper which is really cool but i don't know how i would render it to audio in Cubase, the plugin does not have an export function unfortunately.

Is there a safe way I can exit one of the audio playback algorithms if disting starts processing my samples for the reversed versions? The knobs do nothing.

I thoughtlessly went into one of them with a bunch of 10 minute recordings of noodlings in the folder and it's taking forever... Tried powering off, but it did corrupt the file and the firmware, as noted in the manual. (Not the other contents of the card, thankfully.)

Up and running now with a fresh firmware file, but of course I was still in the same algo after the power cycle, so now it's doing it all over again.

If you power up without the card in, you can switch to a non-SD algorithm.

I think I've got some sort of problem with A8 dual waveshaper.

I lent on the z press and noticed a massive rise in gain. Looked up the manual and saw that there is the z recorder function. Reloaded A8 to try that out and it seems I get loads and loads of gain using the z recorder. Is that normal? Reloading it fixes it. I can't remember which firmware I'm on but its not the latest. Cheers.

I've combined all AKWF (thanks to whoever uploaded the AKWF_Disting_Single file) and Massive wavetables into a single zip file and formatted a few new wavetable-playlist.txt files. These are the best Massive wavetables I've found so far. Definitely more faithful to the plugin than the ones from the reddit link, though those sound cool too.

See readme for more details.
edit:
nvm, i'm gonna ask os about e.g file size.

According to the release notes this was fixed in 4.11.

I thought this might be the case. I’m so behind.

Now that we're past the holidays is there a rough update on when a US restock might happen?

Disting help needed!

Suddenly it is booting in a non-responsive state with one single dot on the display. (This has happened since it crashed when I was loading K5.)

If I remove the card it will boot. So perhaps it corrupted the card when it crashed. In any case, it there such a thing as a list of error messages somewhere?

And yes, I now realize, that I kind of answered my own question: I should probably just put some fresh stuff on the card somehow.

If I haven't missed something that's already there, here's a feature idea...

An envelope with CV-able length and an EOC gate out. Perhaps one of the existing envelope algorithms could be amended to include an option to replace the B output with a EOC gate. Voila - Krell-in-a-box. :cloud:
