Continuous track: The output will continue to track the CV input even after the gate goes low. Normally the output is frozen immediately in sample and hold mode, or only tracked while the gate is high in track and hold mode.
Switch mode: The selected output does not advance each time a gate is received on the gate input. Instead it advances when a gate is received on the reset input, or when the reset button is pushed. This allows you to use the module as a manual switch between the different outputs. Switching direction and number are still respected.
Btw, forgot to announce here.. since there were no bugs reported with 1.11 it is now out of beta and officially released. You can download it off our website.

The great thing about Switch mode is how it makes an Arturia Keystep turn into a multi-module controller with a single connection: Start playing module/patch one, then press the button and bingo now you're playing the second module/patch. Press again for 3, and one more time for 4. All with a single connection from the Arturia to your modular. Oh wait, you wanted to play all four voices at once? It does that too if you want.
Love it. Really appreciate Intellijel getting this out there.

Does Continuous Tracking work in Shift Register Mode? If so, when the input gate goes low, do all four CV outputs simultaneously track the CV input?kisielk wrote:Continuous track: The output will continue to track the CV input even after the gate goes low. Thanks. I do now notice in the manual that while in SR mode and Order set to Forward: "the input is always assigned to voice 1". However, I also see that while in SR mode and Order set to Reverse, "the incoming CV is always assigned to voice 4". Does that mean that the 4th CV output tracks in SR mode when in Reverse?kisielk wrote:Only the 1st CV output tracks in SR mode.

One other question... Reading the manual about the new Switch Mode it sounds like Shifty can provide a pair of buffered multiples (while in Switch mode). Is that right?
"If you set VOICES to SR, then Shifty’s CV and GATE input is routed to all four outputs simultaneously".

Ah, yes, I forgot about that detail. So enable Switches mode, set Voices to SR, flip the switch to Trk, and then you've got buffered multiples.kisielk wrote:Kind of. The CV and gate still respect the sample / track settings. I guess if you combined it with continuous tracking it could be thought of like two buffered multiples.

Nice, I'm looking forward to it!kisielk wrote:Btw there is a demo video of the new firmware dropping next week some time. Keep an eye out on YouTube.
Btw, kudos to Intellijel for Shifty and Tetrapad. Both are already great products and the firmware updates push their greatness even further.

I’m still confused by this. Does the output just always track? Do the cv outputs just act as a buffered mult?kisielk wrote:Continuous track: The output will continue to track the CV input even after the gate goes low. No. Continuous Tracking has to be specially enabled. See page 12 of the updated manual. The buffered mult thing is even more specific. See page 11 of the updated manual.danfastlikeflan wrote:I’m still confused by this. Does the output just always track? Just a USB cable, the instructions are in the firmware updater.joeSeggiola wrote:It isn't clear to me if you need the Intellijel USB-ISP board to flash the new firmware, or if a PC and the module is enough.

In an effort to visualize and compare the different modes in Shifty, here's a graphic I put together illustrating some examples. Hopefully others find this useful too. Please let me know if any corrections are needed.

Awesome guide, thanks!
Really nice to see updates for the Shifty as well. It really makes a huge difference to see a company caring about their products like this. Obviously i rather chose modules from e.g Intellijel or Expert Sleepers than someone who perhaps leaves serious bugs in their products..

This is what happens when I post without having my coffee first. Shifty is not Steppy. Shifty is not Steppy.

I'm probably an idiot but I cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong trying to update Shifty.
"This device cannot start. (Code 10)
{Operation Failed}
The requested operation was unsuccessful.
"
And when I try to click on Update in the firmware updater application I get
"==> Error occurred during update.
Invalid DFU suffix signature
A valid DFU suffix will be required in a future dfu-util release!!!
No DFU capable USB device available
"
Any help would be greatly appreciated

so the new SWITCH MODE is doing exactly what I asked in this post 2 weeks ago. I am so happy. Thank you Intellijel!zerodivide wrote:Just got Shifty and I'm a bit confused. Suppose I connect Shifty to 2 oscillators. And I want to rotate between each oscillator every clock/4 (1 bar). but the incoming sequence is playing 16th notes (clock *4) . Is this impossible? Seems the incoming gate tempo is what Shifty uses to send the gate outs. It would be amazing if the Gate input told shifty when to switch, but the gate outs followed the tempo of the original sequence coming in. Right now it seems the switching has to be the same tempo as the gates coming out. Am I correct?
If so, is there some way you guys can think of, where I can switch slowly, but still send out fast gates? Maybe some kind of logic module?
