First time I tried to use patterns to build a song instead of just playing with mutes and it turns out nice:

euclidean rhythms

Post by qwertyuiop » Wed Apr 10, 2019 1:46 pm

I've been eyeing one of these. Is it possible to get euclidean patterns out of this sequencer? I see that you can adjust individual track step count, but wasn't sure about the timing.

I dig that! Your other tracks as well.
How you are making you kicks in general?
They're nice.

Thank you! Kicks are usually either the Basimilus Iteritas Alter, either the Erica Synths Bass Drum. In the track above I start with the BIA and end with the bass drum

It's on the master page under CLK. Just scroll with the right encoder.

Thanks Kodek for such an amazing update.
I love to have some fresh new features every now and then. I have the feeling this Sequencer can store so much power in it that we are just scratching the surface.. copy/paste features over pattern/steps is a good start.

Let me tell it here, what would be crazy and amazing would be to be able and record CV over the cv track via the encore. Very much like you can do on Voltage Block/Mimetic Digitalis... thought?

Keep up the good work :)

Jack

+----EDIT----+

I got it to work: For anyone using Bome SendSX you can drag the throttling slider all the way down to 313 bytes and be sure to uncheck "Split long messages when sending (work around faulty MIDI drivers)"

Hope that helps someone!

+----EndEDIT----+

Late the the party, but has anyone updated the firmware on the Drum Sequencer using Windows?

I have attempted updating via MIDI-OX, the buffer size of which I can set to 64 bytes but seems to send the information too quickly anyway. Only the first 3 rows of step trigger lights finish lighting up.

I've also used Bome SendSX but it will only allow me to reduce the buffer size to 313 bytes. Hope I can get this working, as the drum sequencer is bricked until I can : :confused: :waah:

Maybe it works with the Elektron C6 Tool (No Erica Synths drum sequencer here but also problems before with Firmware update - Bome SendSX and Midipal)

I am trying to figure out how song mode works. The manual is a bit cryptic, but from my reading, it sounds like you can chain together patterns in an arbitrary order and loop each pattern an arbitrary number of times before proceeding to the next pattern, but I'm not having any luck getting it to work.

Here is what I did to set up my song:

* Create two patterns in slots A1 and A2 with some trigger data
* Enter song write mode by pressing shift+bank
* I left the "SNG" and "LEN" paramaters at the default (1)
* For POS 1, i choose pattern A1
* For POS 2, I choose pattern A2
* I enter song play mode by pressing shift+bank again and press play to start the song.
* It looks like the song play display shows the current position and pattern, but it never changes, and I just hear the pattern at position 1.

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? (or maybe nothing, and this is a bug?)

The Clock setting doesn't seem to save with the latest firmware. I have to set it up to 48pp ever time I turn on my synth. Not a crazy problem, but it would be perfect if it were ready to go :)

It’s counter intuitive, but works as follow.

SNG = the song number
LEN = total number of positions in the song (for your example you need this to be at least 2)
POS = the position itself
PAT = what plays

So to assuming you have patterns that are each a bar long and you want to create an 8 bar song, you set LEN=8, then choose the pattern you want in POS=1 (ie bar 1), POS=2, etc.

Personally have asked (a long way back in this thread) to change the implementation to be

SNG=Song number
POS=position/ part
PAT=the pattern to play
RPT=number of times the pattern repeats in that position

I think this would be more intuitive and have better workflow

Thanks! Yeah, a dedicated repeat parameter would be much more easy and intuitive than duplicating song positions when you want to repeat a pattern.

My imagination is my inspiration...

What’s a choke function?

If you mean muting then yes. The muting capabilities are awesome.

Kodek - I’ve noticed two things on 1.054.

#1 - clock doesn’t save setting. I like using the 24ppqn setting to sync Pam’s but find that I have to set it each time. The setting isn’t saved despite hitting the record button

#2 - have had a bug where I couldn’t get back into the settings menu. Had to power cycle the module to resolve. This is the first bug I’ve seen in a long time.

Hope this helps.
