Re: Squarp Instruments Hermod Modular Brain
New Hermod user here. Very frustrated though. I am having Hermod playing a four voice track that is sent to FH-2 via usb, and from there cv and gate to a quad osc. It sort of works, but stuck notes are all over. When I send midi via usb directly from my keyboard to FH-2, there is no problem at all.
Is anybody doing something similar (polyphonic) without stuck notes?
It works without stuck notes, when I use the midi out, into 1010 Synthbox. But usb into FH-2 is aaaaaaaaargh....

Re: Squarp Instruments Hermod in to Digitone
Hello
I Am using the Hermod and i try to get my Digitone Sequencer to use in te Hermod as a main, so i like to use the track sequence from the digitone instead of the Hermod itself? is there anyone who is having the same problem?
If you can help me out whit anny other ideas to get my Digitone as main in my modulair what modul can i best get,
or use whit the hermod so it act like this??

Re: Squarp Instruments Hermod Modular Brain
I just got a used Hermod and while it’s cosmetically great the encoder requires a very surprising amount of force pressing down before it registers. Is this normal? Is it like this at first and then breaks in?

Hermod peeps!
I PDF’ed the online manual (sans quick start guide) and thought there might be more who might find it useful.
Enjoy your offline RTFM’ing!

Re: Squarp Instruments Hermod Modular Brain
It's a little bit of a pressure push, but no different in my case than my plonk or gatestorm encoder, which seem like a similar mechanism. Can be a little frustrating though as I've changed rotate values accidentally during a push on a few occasions.Bath House wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 12:15 pmI just got a used Hermod and while it’s cosmetically great the encoder requires a very surprising amount of force pressing down before it registers. Re: Squarp Instruments Hermod Modular Brain
Hmm, does not sound right to me. Mine presses down effortlessly. I would get in contact with the Hermod guys.

Re: Squarp Instruments Hermod Modular Brain
Does the new firmware fix the noise issue? Had to get rid of my hermod because the signal noise it produced was unacceptable - the makers emailed me especially when the latest firmware was released to say that they managed to fix it with the new firmware. Can anyone confirm this?

the new firmware (in beta, not released yet) does a few power related things. it powers down the sdcard when not used, and also allows the user to control the intensity of the leds and pads.DJ Tap Water wrote: ↑Wed May 20, 2020 4:39 amDoes the new firmware fix the noise issue? the idea is, these changes will give the ability to reduce the power fluctuations, and so in turn the noise.
I can't confirm if this 'fixes' the issue -as Ive not noticed any noise issues with my Hermod.
I guess, once the firmware is released we'll see if/how much this resolves the issue for those that had it.

Re: Squarp Instruments Hermod Modular Brain
I cannot wait to use this firmware. The noise is really disturbing. It’s kind of ok in sequence mode, louder in track and effects mode and really annoying in step mode.thetechnobear wrote: ↑Sat May 23, 2020 4:44 am

Re: Squarp Instruments Hermod Modular Brain
The amount of LEDs on is directly related to how much noise I typically experience. The option to dim or turn them off completely helped a lot for me, but didn't get rid of it entirely.

Re: Squarp Instruments Hermod Modular Brain
Here's the PDF manual I mentioned earlier.
I had to do quite some re-arranging of the layout and corrected some spelling mistakes. Let me know if you find more and I'll adjust the document.
I wrote hermodOS 1.42, but the manual might be from before the most recent firmware. Please let me know if you know.

Re: Squarp Instruments Hermod Modular Brain
Firmware 1.50 released !
https://squarp.net/hermod/firmware
lots of bug fixes, and improvements.
improvment listed are
but biggie for me is...
`Hermod can now be synchronized in a "step advance" (trigger) style`
this gives the option for hermod to act more like a 'traditional' sequencer, rather than a clocked sequencer... this offers quite a lot of really interesting possibilities.

lots of bug fixes, and improvements.
improvment listed are
lots of things to improve workflow and interaction withy keyboards etc...TRACK mode now displays whether a track contains notes, modulation, pitch/aftertouch (with different icons)
Sequence mode now has a 'Duplicate Core to' function (copy all track effects and parameters to the next selected sequence)
MIDI CC 64 (sustain pedal) is now recorded during a performance, and can be forwarded to MIDI devices with the MIDI OUT effect
MIDI effect now has an 'Apply sustain' parameter. This holds NOTE OFF messages when CC64 is high, and releases them all when CC64 goes low (turning this ON consumes CC64 messages)
Hermod can now be synchronized in a "step advance" (trigger) style, thanks to the setting CV TRANSPORT = A/B/C/D TRIG. The setting CLOCK IN DIV let you choose how much time the sequencer will run for 1 input trig, from 1/32 note to 1/4 note). Please note CLOCK SOURCE must be set to INTERNAL to use this mode.
Randomizer parameters are now saved per project
In STEP mode, you can now hold multiple steps and edit the selection parameters.
New settings: MISC > PADS LEDS. 'HIGH LUM' will disable the dimmed brightness. 'OFF' will disable these 16 leds.
New settings: MISC > RGB LEDS. 'LOW LUM' will lower the brightness. 'OFF' will disable these 8 leds.
New settings: CLOCK > SOURCE = CV A...B NO CLOCK (no midi clock will be sent to outputs midi, device & host)
New shortcut EFFECT mode: FX+[step] goes directly to FX edit
New shortcut STEP mode: hold STEP and press X to delete all events of the current track
New shortcut STEP mode: hold STEP and press Y to randomize the current track
New shortcut STEP mode: hold STEP and press a pad (1 to 8) to quickly set a note length (1/8 to 8)
New shortcut STEP mode: when holding a step and editing its note value, rotate the encoder while pressing it to enable fast scroll (works also for the velocity value)
New shortcut STEP mode (MOD track): long presses on STEP toggles between the MOD and GATE edit submodes
Simultaneous notes limit was increased from 8 to 16 per track
MIDI CC1 (modwheel) can now be used in the modmatrix, when not used as a mod input in the MIDI effect

Re: Squarp Instruments Hermod Modular Brain
Thanks for the notification! Did you get this mode to actually work as advertised? Here it just plays in the internal tempo whenever theres trigs from PNW flooding in, no matter their rate.thetechnobear wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 7:35 am

Re: Squarp Instruments Hermod Modular Brain
works fine for me here.... Ive used with Marbles, so advance in a non-regular pattern
simply set clock to internal, set clock transport to A:trig, do NOT press play (!) then set clock in div to 'taste'
then i sent marbles : T1 to hermod:CV A - viola, irregular patterns.

Re: Squarp Instruments Hermod Modular Brain
Nope, one hundred percent not working here, i've even tried the exact same setup as you with Marbles.
I'll try the squarp / forum and support mail then.

Re: Squarp Instruments Hermod Modular Brain
works a treat here, only thing 'confused me' at first was NOT pressing play - but that makes sense.
(also as documented, you cannot use with an external clock, which is a bit of a shame, id have quite like to use a midi clock just for tempo)
whats also fun, is playing with clock in div...
if you set clock in div to say 1/4, you can program in notes at lower divisions, and they will then all fire at the BPM rate.
so its kind of like sub-sequences.
ooh... just thought this is going to be super fun with FX and modulation stuff !
(my mind is racing with possibilities at the moment.

Re: Squarp Instruments Hermod Modular Brain
Hmmmm based on your comment and further tests i think i now understand what its doing: on every trigger it jumps ahead the division, e.g. a quarter note and plays all the notes inside that division at the set internal BPM. Hence why it's still somehow linked to the internal clock. Weird and not the way my brain is wired (which works the way DFAM/Rene work: one trigger in, one step out).
I guess it works as intented, just with the side effect of confusing my brain. But you are right, this opens up some interesting sequencing possibilities...

Re: Squarp Instruments Hermod Modular Brain
yeah... its quite an interesting take...
the thing is that the hermod is more complex than a 'normal' sequencer, because it allows you to have events at different levels of granularity, so going forward 1 step , immediately begs the question ... how big is a step? then if you have sub steps.... how fast do you play those sub steps?
so i think it's a clever way to handle this.
(of course, you can use it in the 'conventional' way, if you set clock in div to match the step lengths you are entering)
