I hope 4MS sends some of these to Moog Audio soon. I bought one at the beginning of December and I am still waiting for it :sadbanana:

Nervously tapping (in unquantized fashion), waiting for the firmware update. :lock:

The Tapo is a great module. Looking forward to the update.

This is an evolving piece using the Tapo that I made recently. Two thirds in I flip the repeat and let it build and layer before cutting the Tapo feed, then bring it back in with some subtle modulation.

Yeah that was amazing! Well constructed with a great progression through various themes and moods. A piece that evolves over time is gold!

Thank you! I agree about evolving music, makes a piece interesting even if the melody doesn't change.

L.C.O., the update is ready, it just needs a bit more testing and NAMM arrived a bit too fast. In the meantime, I can maybe recommend to watch your gain staging: the loud noise is not louder than the maximum output volume of the Tapo; if you experience such a contrast between your input sound and the noise, maybe your input sound was so low that you had to crank your monitoring up? By amplifying your source and not your output you generally get better SNR, and in this case less contrast between loud and normal volumes...

Ptbarnum AFAIK volume drops cannot be attributed to power supply. Maybe your taps have too low velocity? Try adjusting the velocity parameter.

playthefivetones have you tried to unplug all other modules from your case, and see if it persists? If it does and if it's an inconvenience, 4ms will be help you troubleshoot.

resynthesize the "warble" effect from turning Time is inherent to the processing algorithm. I don't consider it an artifact, but the "natural" way a Time knob functions (similar to tape delays). The DLD solves this by cross-fading between discrete time values... which is exactly what happens when you morph between two tapographies. You could record a few tapographies of the same pattern at different speed, and use a short Morph time to get the same effect. That said, it can also be a lot of fun to e.g. modulate Time with a very slow random CV; with lots of feedback you can get interesting "paradoxical tones" effects out of simple drones

Hope it helps!
Any chance we can see the update soon?
Thank you!
p.

Thank you! The upgrade adds some great features. Did some testing this evening, and I find the Tapo much easier to control—the output is crisper tighter.

updated the firmware this morning - new features sound great but I scared the living shit out of myself when I switched presets and a blast of noise came out that was waaaaay louder than the input signal. It doesn't happen for every preset, I'm not sure what is different about the one that is causing problems. Here's a quick vid to demonstrate the issue (watch your volume). The morph knob affects how long the blast lasts for.

Same problem here… is there a way to download the 1.0 firmware wave file ?
I can't find it.

Same here, some presets just give out extreme distortion, please upload Firmware 1.0.

This is disheartening... hope they can fix it.

Also bumping so 1.0 will be made available.

Just deleted all the presets partially for this reason. What they could do is remake the presets to better reflect the new firmware. That would be ideal.

Ok.
1/ No need to jump on the tables. Everything is reversible, and of course we will do all we can to fix anything we might have missed. I've played with the Tapo on v1.1 for almost a month and did not notice anything like you describe.
2/ The tapographies don't sound any different in v1.1 than on v1.0 simply because they were not modified. Just to make sure I just A/B'ed all tapographies from Bank A on a simple source in both versions, at 0 and 50% feedback. I spent quite some time listening to the Tapo, and I cannot distinguish them.
3/ Yes, the output has been made a bit louder; because of soft clipping, this can lead to a bit more saturation with a loud input, but nothing that could qualify as "extreme distortion". For instance with my loudest VCO, inputting a sine at full blast I get about -50dB harmonic distortion. If you want v1.0 behavior, just turn down Level or attenuate the input, it is strictly the same.
4/ That said, there might be something we oversaw! Can you guys SynthEnergy Wiresandones Ivan Sokol loorenz
Cortega send me an email to 4ms, possibly with a recording showing the problem on a simple input and steps to reproduce? We'll look into it as soon as we can.

For what it’s worth, I just spent over an hour with the new firmware and a variety of clean sine sound sources. I was very happy with the results. Any noise, pops or clicking I experienced was removed by reducing the level.
