1BIT Multitap Delay by FEEDBACK [DISCOUNT!]

Post by strat-1 » Sat Nov 04, 2017 8:47 am

www.feedbackmodules.com

[UPDATE] Please download REV2.0 zip file for the REV2 PCBs. I updated the manual and BOM list.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/ehzpe76a3q7bb ... 0.zip?dl=0

I did the following changes on REV2.0 boards:
- I added a transistor buffer for the gate led (from the switch). Now the led have the same intensity on both 5v or 10v gate signals.
The led is not powered from the gate voltage anymore, so there is no load on the gate voltage.
- I added 74HC541N octal buffer between the SRAMs and TAP Switches.
- Grounded some gates of CD4049s, for a better stability.

These changes does not affect the 1BIT Delay sound. Nothing was wrong with the previous version.
I just checked again if I can do some improvements of the circuit.

1BIT Multitap Delay is an adaptation of classic 1bit delays from the 80s to eurorack with many interesting add-ons.
As the name states this module is a digital delay with 1BIT AD/DA and no CPU inside, similar in design with old delays like : Ursa Major, ADA and Effectron.
Even if it's digital, the module have a warm sound with analog BBD feel, but without the high loss on long delay times.
With two independent taps and outputs you can play with those classic running arps.
For example you can have a long delay on the TAP1 output, using x8 setup, and synced short delay on the TAP2 output, using x4 setup.
You can listen both taps on the mix output, or you can put them in stereo with independent outputs. You have a nice stereo effect even if you use x8 taps on both outputs.
The maximum time is 750ms-800ms. I calibrated the module in a way you can obtain dirty long delay sounds, so you can also use the module in the noise area.
With the LOOP functions you can freeze the sound, obtaining nice crazy effects. Also you can do that using a gate signal for sync.

The module uses 64K old school srams to delay the sound.

Really enjoying these sounds!

I already have one delay which doesn't have a input/output for the feedback path. I dont know if I want another one even though this does sound great :(

This module is very high on my list. It looked super hard last year when i was new to modular, but now it looks like a fun build. I'm a bit terrified of having to test the chips myself, thankfully there's an option that includes them.

Eurorack is an exercise in delayed desire.

I wish I had space for a 22hp delay :sadbanana:

This thing looks lovely. I like the distortion on the input gain.

I just thought I should put my feedback here, too.
What an incredible unit this is, all around! :omg:
It can do it all, from reasonably long, nice and clean, to twittering, hissing, saturation growling, bit-coughing deconstruction. Being highly modulation happy, this is not aimed at fulfilling static spacey echo duty, but best enjoyed in full motion.
And the build itself! Boy what a massive module, the material and work involved to make something like this is nowhere else to be found at such a friendly price point, not in eurorack land. I'd say, for users who love a great delay sound, especially one that will go clearly beyond what PT2399 or Spin fx can serve, this is what you'll want. :goo:

Btw, as these 22hp are a tall order for a delay of any sort, has someone tried this in a 4ms pod X? By the tech specs, the 1bit is 50mm deep, and the pod x offers 51mm depth. So it *should* fit, right?

That doesn't leave you with much room for the ribbon cable tbh, and the 22HP width doesn't help.

I guess the cable can go around the pcbs, it doesn't have to be folded behind the module? Of course it is a tight fit, which is why I asked if someone actually tried that. But the 1bit would be worth getting such a side case solution.

"50mm depth behind the panel with power cable installed"

via the FEEDBACK website, so they're at least clear about that.

I bought one of these when they were on sale last month and it's easily my favorite Euro delay. Getting whooshy mangled rhythmic stuff for house/techno is a joy.

Oops.

I had one Feedback Module, it just turned into almost a whole row...

Actually very nearly left empty handed - for anyone else risking a browse, note that NOT everything is on the front page - click on the Modules/DIY sections to see the whole lot.

Thanks!!!
