Supercell: expanded version of Clouds + Superparasites firmware

If you're a bit forgetful, like me, having the quality / banks UIs separated out, as Supercell does, is worth something too. It used to drive me nuts on the Monsoon. The output level right there on the panel is worth something also (to some at least).

Totally agree. Dedicated knobs make for a great user experience and is one of the attraction of modular in the first place for me.

Yeah, that cheatsheet is bomb ass. Printed it in colour and stapled it like a little manual. Beats trying to look at a website on the laptop while trying to make sounds.

Yes, thank you again for that excellent cheat sheet, Jones! It inspired me to explore my Supercell a bit more last night. I got my Supercell during a furious initial buying-spree and never really fully explored all of its alternate modes. I'm sure you all have already seen this Cinematic Laboratory video, but I'll link it anyway for my own reference: "Clouds Parasite | Still Going Strong."



After recovering from a brief bout of acute Beads-envy, this video inspired me to focus more on Supercell's reverb and delay. When I first got my Supercell, my initial impression of the reverb was rather meh, but now I'm finding that with a little finesse, it's actually quite dreamy. Also, owning Supercell over original Clouds, having all that modulation, attenuation, VUs, etc., is pretty cool.

At first, I was pretty laser-focused on just its granular-engine, giving its other capabilities rather short-shrift. The video suggests that you can think of your Supercell more as an effects-module, leaving the granular heavy-lifting to Beads' higher-fidelity engine. This is an apt approach and does in fact make a strong argument for keeping Supercell in my rack—cognitive dissonance, relaxed—everything now right with the world again.

Yes, I'll be ordering Beads, but only when supply becomes "normal" and my 10%-off discount applies again. I'm in no rush. I'll also be ordering the Mordax GXN when available, because you know what they say, "You can never have too many granular-engines!"

I thought Beads was a super-set of Clouds? Or is that only of Clouds' factory-firmware? If that's true, that's plenty enough reason for me to keep my Supercell. Because now that I'm becoming more familiar with Parasites, I really love the sounds my Supercell is making (and its abundance of modulation-inputs!).

Beads can only store one buffer too, I believe. That's a big negative imo.

It's not a superset of Superparasites, no. There are some features in Beads that overlap with Superparasites (eg beat-repeat) but Beads doesn't have any of the spectral processing stuff. If you were to buy just one I'd say Beads is a no-brainer, but I have both Beads & Microcell and I wouldn't want to part with either of them.

Oh, cool! I just read a random post in the Beads' thread that suggested something to that effect. That's great to know. Right—I think having both will definitely be beneficial.
