Befaco Burst

Post by lisa » Sun Jun 24, 2018 9:38 am

I can't find a dedicated thread for the Befaco Burst which seems to be released soon.

Image
– Custom trigger bursts up to 64 triggers.

– Voltage Control burst Quantity with dedicated attenuverter.

– One Shot and Cycle play modes activated via manual controls or dedicated Trigg input.

– Pingable clock input.

– Voltage Control burst Distribution, Time Division and Probability.

– Tempo and End of Cycle individual outputs for sync other modules.
https://www.befaco.org/en/burst/

I saw a pre-order price of 190 euros.

I've been looking for an interesting burst generator for a while now and this really got me stoked.
Remorseless modular beat; a bit discordant but melodic too. 🦊🦂

Soon is now. Thonk and Modular Addict have it and Muxlicer on their websites.

:yay:

Does anyone know the difficulty of the DIY build? Through hole or SMD? Can’t find anything on the Thonk or Befaco site.

It should be through hole. Many of Befaco's kits have SMD circuitry but they pre-install it for you. Since they aren't specifying otherwise, this is going to be the same.

Psyched to see the DIY kits already available. This means that the built version won’t be too far behind. A guy like me needs it pre built. :sb:

It's very straightforward (just make sure your LEDs are correctly oriented)

Befaco modules are a fun build and their instructions are as easy to follow as they are amusing. That makes sense since their focus as an organization is DIY. I'm not sure I'll end up with a Burst, but for 140US I can definitely see room in my rack for Muxlicer.

Just moved it from my list of interesting modules to my list of modules I'm going to get.

Anybody know when the assembled modules will be in stores?

I just ordered a built one from Perfect Circuit. I’m assuming that they’ll be available other places soon if not already.

Funny: Detroit Modular isn't even mentioning them for pre-order. They're more "Out of Stock" on Befaco stuff than they are in stock lately...

:hmm:

The price difference between kit and built for Burst and Muxlicer is a lot closer than the other Befaco modules I have built: it would almost make sense to buy them built if the kits weren't so fun!

Where can you buy the Befaco Burst pre built?
.
I was unaware that they were going to be available assembled.
.
I just received my kit from thonk, it looks pretty easy to build.
Two boards in that little module :hmm:
I guess I will have to get going on this.
.
This may be a "needed in every rack" module for me

I bought a prebuilt Burst from PC in US.
Also bought a kit from Thonk.

Does anyone wish that the quantity CV was normalled to 5V.

It requires you to insert a CV and then has an attenuator for that inserted voltage.
This would be fine if you wanted to use a CV for quantity.
But what about just using it without a CV for that.
It seems so obvious.

I am not crazy, it requires an external CV to control quantity, doesn't it?

Guess I know how I am going to modify the kit.

The big white knob is for quantity (and tap tempo).

I do that kind of thing more and more as I grow older. Having senior moments when I just forget how anything works. Life, it's a mixed bag. :D

I Built one last week (along with a muxlicer).

It's fun to play with the tempo-synchronized, cv-controlled
bursts, but the firmware hang on me multiple times. It seems
that when you use tap tempo but accidentally leave a tap dangling
for a minute or so, and then use it again, the module becomes
unresponsive to further taps or external clock input unless I
power-cycle it or wait another minute.

In contrast to the muxlicer, I couldn't find the code in the
atmega online to be able to fix this on my side :-/

Edit: The Muxlicer doesn't suffer this problem: it simply ignores
taps further than 5 seconds apart:

anyone else have issues with this? I just finished building, but I can't get to calibrate - it is supposed to flash the LEDs 3x, but it flashes 2x and hangs up unresponsive, with two LEDs lit at approx 10 o'clock and 4 o'clock.

Any help appreciated.

Well I had my cursor on the add to cart button for one of these and hesitated because the Wogglebug has a burst output and I have never tried to use it for that purpose, so I thought I had better at least give it a try before I buy.

I can see where this unit would be easier to control, as I spent an hour or so last night trying to figure out how to get different burst results with different CV inputs to the Wogglebug with a fair level of success, but not really repeatable like the Befaco Burst unit looks like it would be.

I'll keep after it for a while until I get frustrated enough to purchase one...
