Top 5 modules?

Post by jdaddyaz » Mon Mar 18, 2019 5:32 pm

What is everyone's favorite modules at the moment? Doesn't have to be new. Just trying to get my head wrapped around all the different modules people are using.

That is a veeeeeeery inprecise question, as there are modules of so many different purposes, layout, budget, design, usability, and also regional/continental distribution. You wouldn't care to elaborate what your interest is focused on?

Go to Modulargrid, select modules tab, sort by popular. It will list module popularity (with respect to virtual modules mounted in virtual racks that may or may not really exist, so it may well be fantasy...) - but seems pretty close to what I imagine it probably is...

Maths, Clouds and Rings are the top three - that will get some (by now quite old and tired) hackles raised.

The dynamic combo I have been using lately are these two monsters! O&C to control the TRISPECTRUM and several long running LFO's to control the SPACE. It can go from blistered leads to solid wall of drone and back in three to four seconds and damn it if I don't love those three to four seconds!

This is like asking what are people's favorite songs or food or movies. It will vary wildly based on their taste and personal experience

I keep seeing good things about those Verbos. I might have to take a dip. The Magneto is actually on my list. Such an awesome piece of kit. I wasnt much of a Mother 32 fan, but I sure do love the DFAM! Its instantly inspiring, and is a lot of fun to noodle around with.

If I listed a top 5 it would be most of my system so I'll just name 2:

Ornament & Crime
Pamela's New Workout

Both are great multi-function units that don't involve too much menu diving

If it would be for something like a five module challenge in a patch:
MI Ears, MI Rings, Squarp Hermod, Make Noise Optomix, Make Noise Morphagene.

Otherwise I have no idea I would make such a list.

SSP because it is a modular in a module and can do pretty much anything and means my rack is free to get analog kit.
Rossum evolution filter
Rossum control forge
Happy Nerding Panmix
Intellijel Planar (v1)

There really is a lot of compelling stuff out there. Be careful about things like this, you won't realize it usually until much later how much these sorts of things will direct your purchases.

There really is no right or wrong way to build a modular.

+1
There are so many different approaches to this. Lately I've built my modular with the intention to use it as an instrument together with some external gear that works good with my workflow. Earlier I built it as a stand alone unit. Things change and that is why eurorack is so great.
