I can't take any credit--I'm just The Messenger (tm) in that I found it on the Instruo site :cloud:

Oh I thought you were the dev that was posting in the other thread. I'm still holding you accountable for any bugs.

i keep thinking i'm going to make something open & quiet & delicate when i sit down, but then it comes out intense & furious & turned up to 11 - maybe i'm just not very subtle

out-of-phase warbling comes from modulating delay time via the expander - i can't do stereo yet unfortunately, i think it would help here

Nice tune! :tu:

Not sure what your patch looks like but If you want less distortion remember to turn the input pots down when you are not recording into the reel, otherwise the reels output will continue to feed into itself and eachother.

Just received my Lubadh today, first impressions: amazing!
It does exactly what i expected it to do, sounds great and is hands on. As always the button combos need some time to get memorized but it seems easier to remember then other secret handshakes (looking at you CS-L)

My 2 ideas for the firmware wishlist so far:

1) Traditional tape mode that moves the record head in the playhead speed as request previously in the thread (but please as a front-panel toggle)
2) Clock-sync for the delay mode. Maybe clock into "Time" and division into "Length" cv input?

And for future modules: I kinda understand the reasoning behind putting the USB stick on the back but please consider using a (sd?) slot on the front for future modules, similar to Disting / Nebulae.

Arbhar & Ochd due tomorrow and my sexy Instruo row will be complete!
Sad to see Nebulae2 leave but Lubadh/Arbhar seem to be a great iteration on the idea. And my Monsoon will stay in Oliverb mode for now...

anyone had any issues saving reels to the usb drive?

i tried the other day, followed the manual and did the button combo for each reel, but neither showed up when i plugged the usb drive into my computer. not sure if i'm doing something wrong, or if there's a bug somewhere.

would be go to know if anyone has had success saving reels.

Is anybody else having really abrasive glitching when you modulate the start or length on Lúbadh?
Other than that - I am finding this module to be the most fun I've had since I had my Eventide DSP4000 and H8000.

I recorded this track using Lúbadh as a dual tape echo.
One note - you can hear a subtle glitch from start modulation at 6:01, and more of it in the left-panned reel at 6:20 - 7:00. Crackly.
I didn't record my experiment with Batumi pushing start from 1:00 to 7:00 on the reel - which gives me a lot of glitches and bitcrushed nonsense.
I'm going to try and recreate it again.
If nobody else is having this experience, I'm going to ask Jason. It doesn't seem correct.

To elaborate - the glitching and garbled audio only happens if you are overdubbing and modulating start/length simultaneously.
The glitches seem to be from the fresh recorded material.

I just tested this. I could save a reel. on the right deck. but not the left.
When I opened the USB drive on my mac, the file was called right_looped.wav
The left side - nothing. It will not save.
But... when I hold Shift-Erase on either deck for two seconds, the record light flashes three times and I get nothing.

I'm sending an email to Instruō.

Many thanks for testing this - reassuring to know it’s not just me! Sounds like something that might need a firmware fix, but will good to hear what they say.

I'm working with Jason on the glitching thing, and save/load.
One thing I love... I am having such a good time with this...
This workflow feels like the whole concept of splicing physical tape loops - only less work.
Here is the patch:
I have a little sequence going - like 16 notes with variable lengths over 2 bars on my USTA with the Cš-L and I-ō47.
I have the Cš-L going to my mixer, and mult out/use an AUX send to send a copy to Lúbadh - which has monitoring off.
Using Pamela set to send a pulse on every 1x, or 1.5x, or 2x etc, I temporarily patch this into the Record CV on Lúbadh.
This "splices" a tape loop that is exactly a 1/4 note, 1/8th, 1/8t, or dotted1/8, etc. Then I remove Pamela and let the tape loop run free at 1x.
Then I leave the deck on record in Decay mode - so it just keeps overdubbing and decaying the input.
Then I am patching Length and Time to be controlled to Planar2 - so I can manually subdivide the tape loop and alter how fast the previous iterations decay... instant dubplate.
I love Magneto and Mimeophon - but using and hearing Lúbadh feels more handcrafted. plus the feedback from the reel LEDs just makes it a magical experience.

every time i see a new looping device for Euro i ask the same questions..

1) Can you reverse playback
2) Can you overdub while in reverse playback.
3) Can you alter the playback speed, and overdub on top of that
like "half speed" on some pedal loopers.

1) yes
2) no (you can but it will playback in reverse like the orig.)
3) no (you can but it will playback in halfspeed like the orig.)

(magneto can do all those things)

These answers are all correct - partially. I was worried that this might be a dealbreaker too - but then I didn't quite get the point of Lúbadh.
I took a chance and bought it - and I am loving the results.
Corrections:
1) yes.
2) yes. but you need to use both tape decks.
2) yes. But you need to use both tape decks.
There are TWO decks. record on one, then play in reverse or alter speed. Record this on the second deck. Then swap and repeat. Or - just keep going in that direction. You can record -> reverse -> dub -> loop infinitely using the two decks.
It's a process. A different approach - with both benefits and downsides.
It is more akin to making tape loops - like with a reel-to-reel deck or cassettes. And the possibilities of layering and stacking and crafting go way beyond a tape echo (ie. Mimeophon, Magneto, and various other devices or plugins). It is sort of a halfway point between echo and sampling.
The benefits of devices like Magneto, Roland tape echo, Echoplex etc - is that you get instant results.

It would be nice to be able to do tape style overdubs without bouncing but it ends up not being that big of a deal in practice and it's worth it for the flexibility of having two decks.

sure, the two decks are great !
one big plus is that you have no time restrictions when you bounce stuff between. With one reel you are working only within the looplenght.

+ yes: pre/post tape speed recoding option

There are a few other things I wish:
- quantize dividing/multiple mode (1/2,1/4, etc) for pitch knobs (for example press shift for 5 sec)
- slew adjustment for CV speed (down to no slew for quick pitch jumps) for example: hold both shifts and adjust with speed knob
- rec. pushbutton are quite loud when working with mic's or playing lowercase sets in chamber music settings (the audience will hear the clicks).

Does anyone knows the mouser part number for the pushbutton instruo use?
