the website links directly to firmware 81 - didn't think to step up a directory level and see what else i might find...

thanks!

I sometimes get too many cue points. I'm using Twisted wave to add markers but it seems to randomly create too many cues – especially if I'm replacing a previous sample? Anyone else?

I just uploaded a new 108 firmware. Grab via https://busycircuits.com/firmware/alm022/108/

Heres what's new (from https://busycircuits.com/firmware/alm022/Changelog.txt);

- Add 'RANDOM' cue set which jumps to a random cue set when trigger recieved.
- Add 'gated; loop types which play/sustain 'sample' whilst chan trigger input high (and go to decay stage on low if set)
- Add BPM display when Func button held on speed parameter (assumes sample is 1 bar long and BPM must be < 300)
- Fix marker->cue set conversion where initial marker would get ignored unless at sample beginning.
- Fix Chan+Func hold jumping back to chan screen as if just chan pressed.
- Fix saving a single channel into a different destination (previously dest ignored)
- Fix Decay/Attack incorrectly fully opening with 0v CV.
- Fix any existing cue set data geting properly cleared when a new sample is made.
- Fix load/save screens popping up again if click received whilst load/save progress.

Thanks to all that reported bugs + help test fixes and feature suggestions etc.

Anyone else find their Squid is a little quiet when compared with other gear? I find I always have to raise the volume of all channels to around 45/50 which gets a little tedious after a while.

Could there be a way to increase the default level?

The default level is conservative as to avoid nasty digital clipping when playing back a channel pair.

If you want to quickly increase all channel levels; On any channel level screen hold Chan + Func and twist encoder. This will set the level on all channels. You can then save the bank and levels will be remember next time you load.

Having a lot of fun with the squid.

Couple bits:

I think previewing samples before you load them needs to be a thing...

Also, the decay parameter response from 1-99 should be inverted. Atm, 0 decay equates to a long sample (with no decay) and 1 decay equates to a short sample (with very short decay). 99 decay is the closest value to 0 decay (in terms of effect) .. See what I mean? When you modulate it you get a weird jump from 0 to 1.

The encoder should loop around from 99-0 when entering values. It does this on some things already and it's fast/useful.

Tip: add a little bit of phase to stepped modulations to make the response more consistent. If it's stepping on the beat, the chaotic nature of liminality can cause a coin toss effect (although you might want this, too)

+1 on this, would be my number one feature request.

love the module, though.

I agree useful useful but cant make any promises on if/how well it will work + will take a bit of effort. WIll move up the todo though.

Yep.. I'll get this sorted for next firmware release. Sorry not sure how its ended up like this.

Can you be a little more specific? It was stopped looping on some params (like level) as could cause a big 'jumps' in output which probably are not what you want.

I made a new firmware release taking on suggestions with hopefully the Decay param finally sorted out and previewing of samples :hyper: amongst some other tweaks and improvement.

Wow. This thing was sexy before, but with that kind of support from ALM I suddenly feel a pressing urge to quickly go and earn some money to finally shut up and throw my money at you.

It is always so amazing to see the small boutique makers have such a thousandfold better support and update policy than, say, Arturia.

I got mine a week ago and it has a strange behaviour. With nothing patched on the Rec Input either on the Rec Trigger it starts sampling.... :(

Another issue is that Squid got stucked/frozen 2-3 times....the display was frozen and somehow zoomed in, the whole image not just the waveform or cue points. The audio though was still playing, but it did not respond on any button pressing. Even triggers and cv inputs were working fine.

I uploaded to 1.08 and still does the same thing. I will also try the new firmware, but....

Anyone with the same issue?
Is mine a faulty unit?
Should I return it?

I just realized one factor that make Squid recording on it’s own. When I’m charged with some current (static electricity)and I touch the usb drive it starts recording. I was back n forth working with my modular and my computer testing usb drives. So every time come in contact with the aluminum mac pro tower and then working with Squid alway starts recording.

Is this a normal behaviour?

I just got mine yesterday and I'm loving it. Anybody have any custom sample banks they feel like uploading? I wanna make a Muslimgauze style bank of samples. I see myself having way too much fun with this thing! :guinness:

Awesome!

Feature request float: stepping through cue points with a trigger.

Bought this recently and having fun, looking forward to trying the new firmware.

Feature request-wise, assignable outputs would be cool, for example putting just the kick on 1+2 and 6,7,8 each on their own outs.

You can swap the channels around easy enough via key combo but what you are suggesting is putting more than 2 channels on a single output ?

Been loving my Salmple so much so far! Even more excited to see my two most desired additions already happening (scan mode and triggered cue set changes). Big props to ALM for all these updates !
