This is maybe not a question, more like me dreaming out loud. I think es-9 is fantastic, and have been using it a lot with iPad And AUM lately. I’m using an app called covariant to convert midi to cv from any Midi plugin, and it works great. My dream would be if there were an app that could provide the outputs to the es-5 also.
Here’s a small test where I’m outputting a sequence from midimarble in mozaik, and lfo’s from rozetta. Cv to Instruō cvs-l, and lfo to waveshaper, envelope to dsm01, and lfo to Dreadbox reflector.

I didn't know about CoVariant! Glad someone finally did "Silent Way in an app". :)

Why not ask them to add ES-5 support? The code is easy and published:

Well... it'd hardly have been right for me to start posting on the Expert Sleepers forum saying "Hey guys, here's a competitor to Silent Way"...

:sstorm:

There's a self-contained sequencer that does CV/Gate as well: CVquencer.

Thanks. :) If I can get hold of an ES-5 at some point I'll give it a try.

I take it you're the author of CoVariant? If you want an ES-5, email me.

Yes, that's me. ;)

This isn't something that I'm going to be able to work on right now because I have another significant piece of work to complete. Plus there's the question of how much interest in it there'd be, and the fact that the majority of current iOS AUv3 hosts don't support the multiple input busses required to implement encoder AU's along the lines of the VCV Rack plugins.

Totally understand it’s just me dreaming out loud. Maybe in the future if covariant gets a bigger crowd. I frankly don’t understand why it hasn’t got more attention, there’s nothing like it on the market and it has such huge potential. When using it in AUM there’s so many unique sequencers and generators, and there is new coming all the time. For me es-9 with AUM and covariant becomes a fantastic combination, portable setup, mixer, effects, and extra clocks, gates, envelopes, and sequencing. And with mozaik it’s relatively easy to make your own modules.

thinking of selling my ES8 and getting an ES9... but looks like the ES9 is out of stock everywhere (EU).

is a new batch expected to be shipped to distributors soon?

Second that. Entirely out of stock in the US as well. Any info on the timing of the next shipment would be helpful!

excellent thanks - Os

btw: are you still selling the short ADAT cables, they also seem to unobtainable...
and I cannot find an alternative - I guess very short ADAT cables are that not useful outsides the ES release ?!

Hey Os
Is there anything stopping me from using one of the 1/4 inch outputs of the ES-9 to send audio to USAMO to generate MIDI? Sample-accurate MIDI clock out of Ableton is the goal, since Ableton MIDI over USB can definitely be shit. Otherwise, I'm guessing the ES MIDI breakout would probably be the simpler solution.
Thanks for your time, mate.

The breakout would certainly be simpler, but you could use any of the ES-9 outputs (not just the 1/4" ones) for the USAMO.

Or you could add an ES-5 and ESX-8MD.

Hallo OS,
I just received my ES-9 and have the problem that INPUT 1 is very hot, which means that the signal distorts and when I only plug in a dummy cable the plug goes red and blue by itself and produces crackling sounds. After testing different cables I realized that when I push and hold the cable-plug to one side the sound becomes normal. This points to a hardware problem of the plug?!
Reinstalling the firmware didn't help.
Any advice besides returning it?
Best, Klaus

Yes, that sounds like a faulty jack socket.

I just received my ES-9. I'm on a Mac, and my Mac is not recognizing the interface at all. I've fiddled around with it a bunch and nothing has made it work. I tried usb c and usb type a, resetting my computer, using all the different ports in my Mac, unplugging my other audio interface, and checking the cables to make sure they're good.

Does anyone know why my Mac might not be recognizing my interface? I've tried everything other than booting it in DFU mode and reloading the firmware.

What do the ES-9 LEDs do on startup?

A bit of a noob question here, but are there any simple examples of midi note or frequency to CV for the ES-9 and Max/MSP? I've dug around a bit (ok a lot actually), and I thankfully have audio in working which is rad, but sending control voltages for frequency out hasn't quite worked the way I expected and I'm sure I'm missing some simple math.

Any help much appreciated!

You'll want to send the ~dac around 0.1 per octave.

Ha! you're not alone mate, I've been waiting for ages too! Found Sound told me that a shipment was expected in 'early June' so hopefully that means we'll get our hands on them v.soon :)
