Where the hell is the Pico Drum2??
Hello there!
I am planning a modest eurorack case, and I’d like to have a small drum part in it.
I know about the Erica Synth’s Pico Drum2, but cannot really find any precise informations or video demos around the internet. They’re not even selling it, instead of all others pico modules that came out at the same moment!
It looks amazing but I’m wondering where is it hiding!
Have a good day!

I have heard music made with it. It sounds fine but it is hard to give an opinion since they had it going through a lot of distortion and other effects. I would advise you to give it a try and see for yourself. 10 years ago people were making snares out of filtered clocks. That's not how drums are normally made btw. It proves that anything can be drums.

Re: Where the hell is the Pico Drum2??
This module is very tempting!
https://www.ericasynths.lv/media/Pico_DRUMS2_manual.pdf
Btw, an interesting feature of the decay knob, per the manual:
https://www.ericasynths.lv/shop/eurorac ... ico-drum2/Pico Drum2 is compact yet versatile percussion synthesizer in a 3 HP eurorack module. It features 8 drum synthesis algorithms created to deliver distinct sounds to your modular system. Each algorithm offers a lot of flexibility therefore a big sounding bass drum and a squelchy snare can be dialled in within the same algorithm. It also tracks 1V/Oct and all parameters can be mapped to the CV1 input.
Features
8 percussion algorithms
3 parameters per algorithm
1V/Oct tracking
CV control over all parameters
CV controlled algorithm switching
Input protection against over voltage
Protection against reverse PSU connection
https://www.ericasynths.lv/media/Pico_DRUMS2_manual.pdf
Btw, an interesting feature of the decay knob, per the manual:
This knob sets the VCA envelope decay time. In full clockwise setting the VCA is fully open, and you can use the module as the regular sound source.

Here's another demo video. This one is 15 minutes and by the one and only DivKid:

i am so excited for that module! comes in like really really handy. may be not as versatile in the long run, but with a little modulation i got a nice little glitch drum for only 3HP in my case. probably use one to also layer my snare or kick hehehe

Re: Where the hell is the Pico Drum2??
So, does this mean that you can actually buy Drums 2? (yet)
.
BTW..Pico drum (1) is a pretty cool module
.
I saw this video on the internet a few years ago and had to try the last patch.
Pico Drum-Pico RND and Pico DSP patches
It worked great.
Suddenly I had 3 Pico Drums, 2 Pico RND and 3 Pico DSP modules..gotta love them.
.
My friends at work couldn't believe how much noise came out of a half full EP-96 case.

it sounds wicked in my opinion - SO much fun in 3hp. I immediately put in a decent order with Erica and half of them have sold already as preorders.
Should be shipping out to me tomorrow I think - still a few left on the site available for preordering (but only selling to limited countries at present, due to the current situation with regard to shipping delays & unpredictability.....although I'm gonna gradually start bringing countries back again)

Here's another video (by Synth Anatomy) where Girts from Erica Synths talks about the development and functionality of Pico Drum2 (skip ahead to about 9:50):

That's the problem with those tiny modules, they keep getting lost...

They’re out there and it’s glorious. But - I wish it remembered the core mode setting (param/decay/algorithm) on power up.

Re: Where the hell is the Pico Drum2??
I got mine recently and finding it difficult to gel with it. Some kicks are nice and it's possible to get nice snares out of it too, but overall, I find the general flavour to be a bit too reminiscent of stock daw presets type of drums. Maybe it resorts a bit too much on sample rate reduction effects and raw square waves to my taste. Of course it's personal and I'm sure the aesthetic can be perfectly suited if that's what you're looking for. I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar relationship with the module in the beginning but eventually managed to find some interesting sweet spots and/or interesting uses? I may end up selling it but I'd really like to give it another chance for use outside of the "digital techno" territory.
Re: Where the hell is the Pico Drum2??
Yeah, I also found it a bit obscure at first, but I've come to love it. The main thing I've discovered is that the interactions between the two parameters are really subtle and cover a LOT of ground, especially in the fold and complex modes. Make sure to spend some time exploring various positions for these two parameters -- it can make a huge difference. The other thing is that it helps a lot (as with any drums) to process the dry sounds heavily. I've found that running the drums through distortion and then into Drum Buss (or any transient shaping + compression) makes a big difference as well.

Re: Where the hell is the Pico Drum2??
Is it possible to save the mode that it is set in? For example, I want to keep it in Algo mode but every time I power back up it's not in Algo mode...?

Re: Where the hell is the Pico Drum2??
I reached out to Erica Synths asking if there was a way to save it's Algo mode, they said there isn't, but they might look into adding the ability in a firmware update. This was a few months ago now.
In my opinion, the fact that Drum2 does not remember it's Algo mode really limits the usefulness of the Algo mode switching. I have x2 Pico Drum2's and I whenever I power up my rack I have to manually change back to the correct Algo mode on both modules. It's so frustrating that I've pulled them both out of my rack.
Anyone looking to purchase an Drum2 by aware of this quirk.

No, that is not what happens with both of mine ... they stay in the algo mode I have selected.

Re: Where the hell is the Pico Drum2??
I just did a test and it turns out to be somewhere in between. Since I like to use the Blue mode (Algo switching) I assumed this was the case in all the other modes. After testing I found that...
If Drum2 is in Red mode (Param 2) when it reboots, it reboots in Red mode. If Drum2 is in Green mode (Decay) it reboots in Green mode. If Drum2 is in Blue mode (Algo) it reboots in Green mode.
I have 2x Pico Drum2's and both do this. Does yours act differently? If so, when did you purchase? (I've had mine since July).
