Here's a one take Jam involving the Vortex Generator (with some practice yesterday)

Filter is the RYO Aperture low pass gate. Vortex generator is patched into the klang on the filter but attenuated until it's time to let it go wild :w00t:

Shift register is creating some bleeps with DM77 drum module. Vortex is let loose at around 2m.30s

Maaaaan I love this module

It’s reminding me why I started building these things to begin with.

It can be super fiddly, but when you land on a sweet spot it’s pure joy - I can listen to the rungler do it’s thing for hours. It’s doing that thing great modules do where you want to bang it against all your other modules individually, to see what kind of weird shit shakes loose.

I kind of want another one...
It began as a mistake.

Thanks for your feedback, Syndie!!. I appreciate it a lot

And yeah, I feel the same!! In fact, you know? Today I have plugged just the Vortex to Plaits... nothing more, just two modules... And holy moly... the amount of polyridths, textures, percussions and mayhem is just infinite... If you have a plaits, try it

Clock out to Plaits trigger. Rungler to Plaits mode, and the rest to other params as you feel... Instant generative landscapes addiction...

Would love to play it vs a BIA...

Also wondering how does it interact with a Braids... Hmmm

@SphericalSound,

I really like the idea and am about to order one, and try it out.

But my question is:
If I buy only the Front+PCB... do you send the .hex-file for the Arduino?

I have all parts already so I was wondering about that. Can't seem to find a .hex-file online.
Otherwise I just order the Front+PCB+Arduino... But well, I could use that extra cash for the shipping. :)

Thanx

Hi again. :) Are the pre-built modules you have in stock on your Tindie ones that have the new/updated panel where the inputs and outputs are more clearly visible? I've been waiting to order until the old panel stock is gone... Thanks in advance! :sb:

Yepp, all panels are the new ones whatever you order from Tindie, Ebay or Etsy.

Well Shit,

I haven't heard of this module before today, Had a crispy 2:1 Martini, made frogmore stew and had some nice wine with the wife.

Then, I saw there was one left on reverb and snagged it without a second thought. I've recently tried some "complex envelope generators"
I love my Maths and I'm excited to have this alternative in my case.

I just did the same! Got the last one (for the time being) on Reverb. Very excited to get my hands on this module! :sb:

So Im updating the Vortex Generator and releasing it as open source for the community to customize/hack it.

The updated firmware consist in:

-Cleaned source code and added comments in english
-Code optimized to run faster, so the envelopes/LFOs and rungling achieve higher speeds
-Added a second Rungling mode, that you have to manually activate and compile for it to run
-New units come with turqueise/pink way too cute leds
-Now PCBs are 5€ cheaper in my store for people that wants to build a module.

You can download the new firmware and source code here:

https://github.com/spherical-sound-soci ... e/rev2.024

To update the firmware, connect your Vortex Generator to the USB port and upload the .hex file via

Windows, use xloader:
https://www.hobbytronics.co.uk/arduino-xloader
Mac, use HexUploader:
https://github.com/paulkaplan/HexUpload ... exUploader

SphericalSound, two questions-

1) How does the second rungling mode differ from the first?

2) When might new built units with new code and LEDs be available?

1 In normal mode, second channel of the rungler is processed if the first channel has done a complete cycle.
In the extended mode, the second channel is processed independently of the first channel cycle

In the practice is produces a different sonic "rungling" or Benjolinity :D

2 Modules are ready, but Im waiting for a load of knobs to arrive. Knobs should be here 1 month ago and I guess it will arrive soon. Hopefully. If anyone want to order without waiting for the "official" knobs, I can send with "unofficial ones". Just contact me.

All modules ships with the new leds and firmware

Very cool design. Any chance of it being open source? I'd love to have a tinker with the schematics! :)

The schematics are open sourced too. I just ask other brands not to copy the PCBs. You can find it here:

https://github.com/spherical-sound-soci ... -generator

Edit: current pcb has one of 2 different resistor values but are pretty much the same

There should be stocks in 1-5 days approx.

Missing the switches now. If you have switches I can send you the rest of the kit

Would anyone happen to know the longest loop time or envelope that this module does?

Also can the envelopes be triggered by short triggers?

The max attack is 4 seconds. Max decay 8 secs, so total 12. If you know arduino you can modify it to extend or contract it as is open source now.

And yes, it can be triggered by short triggers ;)
