Qu-Bit 2020: Aurora, Data Bender, Surface, Cascade
https://www.qubitelectronix.com/coming-soon
Bunch of intersting looking modules from Qu-Bit.
Aurora--spectral reverb
Data Bender - circuit bent digital audio buffer
Surface - multi-timbral physical modeling voice
Cascade - ratcheting envelope generator

These all look cool, but I think it’s time for Eurorack to have PM that is something other than plucked string/percussion. Holding out for that rumored 2nd AAS/Intellijel collab.
Sorry, rant over- excited to hear demos of these!

Reserving judgment, until I see a Surface demo, but 8 simultaneous voices in a 10hp module is promising. Haven't heard about a second AAS/Intellijel module, but the plonk interface is awful--so hopefully some rethinking there.

Re: Qu-Bit 2020: Aurora, Data Bender, Surface, Cascade
The Data Bender sounds like the perfect prescription for my case
The Aurora and Surface look like potential acquisitions too. I've been going back and forth between the Dinky's Taiko and Plonk for percussion sounds, with a leaning towards the Plonk. The only thing preventing me from comitting is the extensive menu diving on the Plonk. Surface looks more immediate. Also, I've been patiently waiting on the Xaoc Devices Timiszoara for reverb but the con about it for me is the screen. I look forward to hearing what these machines can do!

I'm super interested to see/hear some demos of Data Bender
Re: Qu-Bit 2020: Aurora, Data Bender, Surface, Cascade
Plonk really isn't that bad. Parameters are grouped, so it's not like you need to scroll through a few dozen to get to the one you want to edit (looking at you, Transient)- you just jump right to the area you want. Still a little scrolling, but it's worth it for the depth of parameters you get.

Ditto. Can't wait to hear that one especially.motorhead412 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2020 1:40 pmI'm super interested to see/hear some demos of Data Bender

also most interested in Data Bender. looking forward to demos.
it must be able to record into a live audio buffer for 'real time' processing (like Clouds for example), right?

Hoping that surface is a solid physical modelling voice.

Re: Qu-Bit 2020: Aurora, Data Bender, Surface, Cascade
That's about what I get from the description. Like a really long buffer for bringing bits from long ago back to life.brandonlogic wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2020 1:45 pmalso most interested in Data Bender. looking forward to demos.

Would like to see more video demo of these new modules. QB's Fx processing has a sound. Perhaps that's the characteristic but it would be more interesting if with wider sound patelett.

Yes! Timiszoara, Desmodus Versio, and Aurora--are all in the running for a spot in my rack. Even the Nutekt NTS-1 looks like it would make a decent stereo reverb at a bargain price.Whatisvalis wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2020 3:19 pmIntrigued by Data Bender.

I love the idea of the data bender. Kinda feel like if it had audio/but rate reduction for more digital sounding stuff and a noise/crackle/hiss blend for vinyl sounds it would've been the cherry on the top. Still intrigued though

If they nail the sound on the Data Bender it's going to be a major hit. I don't think it'll do real time audio processing, more like record and then manipulate.

I always wonder why there´s no more rings versions out there. You know take the original Gillet´s concept and give it a twist or two.
The surface sounds a bit like that, isnt?

(copied from NAMM thread)
Damn!
Thoughts:
Cascade: "Ratcheting EG" seems like a great idea, and not one I've seen before. I've been looking to add more looping/triggerable envelopes to my case so I look forward to demos.
Aurora: What's a FDN Reverb? Can't wait to hear what this sounds like with the infinite feedback...
Data Bender: I'm working on a circuit bent DIY project right now, so... Yes, this is up my alley. I assume this is some kind of DSP emulation of "circuit bending", but I'm certainly intrigued to hear it.
Surface: Woah... Is this Rings on steroids? Up to 8 voice poly. I might have to sacrifice 2 more HP over my uRings and go big!

Feedback Delay Network. Basically, a set of comb filters in parallel, where the feedback path goes through a matrix mixer that shuffles everything around.

It's the design behind Erbe-Verb, Eventide SP2016 & H3000, the Mariana Trench card for Z-DSP, etc. A lot of reverbs use some variation on it.

Yes, Data Bender looks like a musthave, but I like what I hear from the warp-knob of Aurora as well....

Re: Qu-Bit 2020: Aurora, Data Bender, Surface, Cascade
I am a Plonk lover and was looking for a second plonk or something similar but I couldn't find something of my taste and no... I don't want a sampler... So sign me up for the Surface! Looks great and despite of the bad audio on the NAMM vid I think it will suit me.
The dastabender looks/sounds interesting to... But I have to wait for better audio examples to really hear if its something I will use.

Re: Qu-Bit 2020: Aurora, Data Bender, Surface, Cascade
I hope there will be another vid with more focus on listening than taking, this would was just too quick!
Surface could be a possible rings replacement for me, though again not enough time spent showing the range of sounds you can get in each model.
Looking forward to more vids.

Re: Qu-Bit 2020: Aurora, Data Bender, Surface, Cascade
Surface will never replace Rings, it's missing one major feature: audio input.
Of course it still might be cool as its own thing. Wasn't really sold by that video, I'm sure there will be others soon though.
