[Newbie] Sequencing drum samples / slices

Post by ddpxl » Mon Feb 10, 2020 8:23 pm

Hi all,

I tried searching for this but not having much luck, but I may not know what to look for as I am relatively new to all this.

I have an Erica Sample Drum in the mail headed my way. Now I am looking for a way to sequence/trigger it. I want to take drum loops (eg: breakbeats) and trigger various segments/slices of the loops (eg: bassdrum, hats, snare hits) to make rythms.

I am looking for a hands on, immediate sequencer that's easy to tweak on the fly. I've been looking at the Steppy by Intellijel. I like the interface from the demos, but I'm not sure how I would use that module to trigger various samples or start points. My understanding is that the start/sample selection is done via CV, but the Steppy outputs gates. I feel like I'm missing a piece here to connect the two?

Should I be looking at CV sequencers instead? I have a Pittsburgh Micro Sequence but it will only do 8-step sequences which seems limiting for drum beats.

Any help wrapping my head around this would be appreciated :)
