I know and excuse me if there is more past threads along these lines but...

Loοking for a single module that does these 2 things at their basic level.
A) - Midi in to cv (to use for example with the octatrack. eg. control the modular with the octatrack)
B) - USB to cv . (to connect to DAW for the use of sending a simple clock from DAW to synch tempo at least on the modular)

Disappointment with any module is usually a failure of imagination.

I believe intelljel uMidi 1u has jacks for both USB and 5 pin midi DIN. Not sure if the 3u version can accept both

Second hand marked are flooded with basic MIDI2CV modules as user grows out of them. But also wanting USB not sure any manufactors bother to stay basic though.

Not very basic but has the potential to grow with your modular are FH-2 which also has USB host capileties and let you synch both ways.

EDIT: Come to think about it. Believe Disting mk4 also will do basic midi2cv2midi. But no USB connection.

Doepfer A-190-3

http://www.doepfer.de/a1903.htm

Thanks for the input.

Do you think it is superior for some reason to Doepfer A-190-4 ?
I also noticed gthere is a Doepfer A-190-5 :)

No, your OP sounded like you wanted the simplest module possible, so I suggested the A-190-3, but if you want more features or more channels, the A-190-4 and A-190-5 are also good options.

The Silent Way plugins from Expert Sleepers (and a DC-coupled sound card) are a quick and easy way to control your modular from the DAW.

Befaco Midi Thing would probably be your best bet at 6ph -- it has dedicated clock and reset outputs plus tons of mono and poly cv modes

Univer Iter in 6hp from Noise Engineering seems like a great option. It's not been released yet, though.

I just got that but returning because there’s no unison mode.

Make sure whatever you decide on support polephony if that is something you want to explore. One aspect very easily forgotten and taken for granted coming from Elektron devices.

I have been using a cv.ocd for my midi to clock and reset.

However I had been having lots of problems with sequencers double skipping on play though and i traced it down to it being midi.

i now use audio clicks from my soundcard (laid down in sequencer) as both my clock and reset and now have no problems with the double triggering caused by my dodgy midi timing. I've heard of this problem a LOT to be honest when using midi clock to modular clock/reset.

The good thing about using the audio trigger samples (i think tiptop audio made the one i use) is that the sequencers will always be in time with the audio coming from the DAW, rather than the midi clock. Which can be a fair while ahead when you're working with any latencies due to plugins etc.

I'm not sure what do you mean by unison mode? But here are few reasons, why Poly2 works for me.
1. Im using Octatrack to sequence modular, OTs midi CC resolution is low 128 steps, so if you use CCs for slower LFOs they are "steppy", but Poly2 has midi CC smoothing (low, medium, highg) that solves this problem.
2. Poly2 has scale filter, lets through only notes from selected scale. This opens doors to use OT for generative stuff, and cool feature in general to have.
3. I can connect OT and Keystep at the same time and Keystep is powered from Poly2!
4. 12 assignable CV outputs! this opened a lot doors for me, Attenuate LFOs in Octatrack, modulate one lfo with other in OT, save CVs in octatrack Parts list goes on.

As you can see I'm a fanboy of this combo :sb:
