New! Alright Devices Zzzorb

Post by float32 » Thu Mar 19, 2020 7:44 pm

Hi everyone, we've got a new module! Zzzorb is a four-pole multimode filter plus a linear VCA! You can find more info and some audio demos here: https://www.alrightdevices.com/product/zzzorb

We're shipping these now so they should be available from shops in the US and Europe very soon. We also have a handful available on our webshop but we're currently only shipping to the US.

What do you mean? The little guy with the evil look is between the frequency CV inputs and the cute guy is between the resonance and VCA knobs.

The different filter characteristics are indicated by the curves above the respective outputs.

Indeed the curves are there, but to me the guy at the top looks low and sluggish, and the guy at the bottom is bright and startled. In other words they look like low pass and high pass sound. Maybe I'm overthinking it... :hmm:

I don't think you're overthinking it, but to me it seems that it's more about the the little breathing-tube things on their heads than the eyes... the guy on top is Lowpass because his tubes slope down to the right and the the guy below is highpass becuase his slope down to the left. But I like your interpretation too. :)

Is this filter design based on anything? Novel filter circuit? Analog or digital? (not that it matters, I'm just curious.) I really liked the demo sounds.

I thought the little marks on the two low pass output were showing 2 and 4 pole filters.

Haha, I like these interpretations! Truthfully they're not meant to indicate anything about the filter, they're just cute little creatures!

It's nothing out of the ordinary, just a cascade of four VCA-integrators with feedback. All analog, using two SSI2164 quad VCA chips.

Cool, thanks for the no-nonsense answers! Glad you liked our silly interpretations.

I love your aesthetic. Now you just need to make an Oscillator with some funky twist in the circuitry and a yellow or purple panel so I can make a little self-contained Alright Devices synth with one of each of your modules! :sb:

+1 on more brightly colored panels. Put a little sunshine in my black an silver box.

These demos have me wanting to buy one and just make unabashedly joyful bleepy-bloody sounds.

Just pre-ordered from Detroit Modular. Did I need another filter? Nope. Could I resist a new Alright Devices module? Nope.

I'm fairly certain it's Papernoise. Different Italians, as far as I know. They do the Mutable Instruments ones and a few others. Not sure who cremacaffe is.

Aaah yes those are the guys I meant. I was perplexed already cause I couldn't find any reference on the cremacaffe website
