clocking Pamelas New workout

Post by jjr » Tue Mar 24, 2020 10:13 am

Hey all ,
I know this exists somewhere out there but I couldn't find it in the search.
If I want to clock Pamelas New workout with my marbles what PPQN should I choose? can I get reliable sync this way? I've had trouble in the past, getting stability, when attempting to slave Pamelas to something else.
thanks
jjr

- MOD EDIT -

Fixed title and changed Pamala to Pamela for search purporses.

24 ppqn is super stable. And you'll have to go in the settings on Pam to make sure it knows to check for that signal. A Run/stop signal is also key (imo) to make pam sync perfectly.

Why not clock Marbles with PNW? Surely that is the better option?

Agree with Pam’s into Marbles.

But 24ppqn or 48ppqn for clocking Pam’s with a run signal is super stable.

the reason for clocking PNW :: in a live context I don't like menu diving. I find marbles much more playable, I can alter my patch and its rhythmic permutations much more nimbly.

Hey all, could you please take pity on me and explain exactly what the difference is between clocking PNW at 8 PPQN vs 24PPQN . When clocked at 24 in the past from marbles I believe it indicated something like an "unstable clock rate". Also, why would I need a run signal in this context? could you take a look at my setup and let me know if there is a place I'd get a run signal from? :hail:

Also what do these mean in a practical sense when clocking PNW with Marbles?? :hmm:

For syncing to work, Pam needs to know the external clocks ratio of ticks to a
quarter note - this is known as the Pulses Per Quarter Note (PPQN) value.

By default, Pam is setup to follow a Din Sync like clock. This has a PPQN of 24
and uses the run input to start and stop the clock.

If you sync to an external clock and the BPM gets set to 10, then you very likely
have an incorrect PPQN value set, which is too high
