I was going through the Mylarmelodies videos last week, and was like: ok, I need a quad S&H.

In one of the later videos he claimed the Disting S&H was the best he used. I’m curious if he’s going to update this.

Anyone got the card for the matrix mixer?

Now it only needs to show up in Schneiders' shop...
Here we go ...

Module@Schneiders

But after ordering Ochd two days ago my wallet says no to this price :waah:

Does anyone think this is the new random module that SSF has been hinting at a kind of replacement for the URA?

I’m hoping not. I really like the look of this module, but I couldn’t use it in place of what my URA does.

So what is it that makes this module so special?
I realise that 4 S&H for that price is quite fair considering the average price of a dual S&H.

But how do S&H differ across modules? Ben mentioned in the demo video that this one is particularly musical - what makes it so?
Does it have some level of controlled randomization?

Not criticizing - just a genuine question. Haven't used S&H much before this week.

It's actually 6 S&H not 4, and all 6 have built-in independent pink noise sources. The independent part is key to me, since that means a simultaneous trigger to all 6 will give you 6 different values not 6 copies of the same value. Also, 3 of them have built-in rectifiers (positive voltage only) which makes them useful for the many modules out there which only react to positive voltage.

This is quite a feature set in 4 HP.

ooh that nota looks good. I'm after replacing my tiptop quantizer as i just dont use all its features and only really want a similar keyboard type thing. And since there are never any sonic potions penrose available ever, that one might take the win! PLus a cvable slew is great addition, and makes a lot of sense for a quantizer to have on!

If you are ok with thru hole diy, you can order the Penrose from their website. It's an easy build: https://www.sonic-potions.com/shop/

The video says those three output 0V half the time (which suggests they have half-wave rectifiers). Shouldn't there be no difference if a module which only reacts to positive voltage receives a negative voltage or 0V?
If you have an original MI Rings panel you're willing to part with, please PM me.

The apparent "special" thing seems to be the high precision of the S&H circuit. Video says voltages don't need to be re-quantized after S&H and so on. Other than that it's clever normalization I suppose, and high build quality, assuming it's on par with the other Instruo offerings.
"Particularly musical" doesn't make much sense to me for a S&H in this context - they're all pink noise based, so random here should be no different than other pink noise random, and whatever user patches into sample in. Other than said clever normalization and availability of positive-only which is what some quantizers want -

I got a card in my Ochd box with different module named lìon (a 6x6 matrix mixer)
I'd be really interested in more info on that matrix mixer, in particular how much HP it's gonna be

Yes, module’s documentation on the SSF site also confirms this: the unipolar outputs will be 0v roughly 50% of the time, which sounds exactly like a half-rectified output (negative values appear as 0v). We’ll see how that works out in practice, but it seems rationally useful. The key detail (for me) is that it’s sampling a unique noise source.

I feel like with all the people posting Instruo trading cards and talking about Instruo quality and speculating about Instruo modules, it should be noted that the module in question is made by SSF and has nothing to do with Instruo. DivKid modules are all collabs with different companies. Ochd happened to be Instruo but RND STEP is with SSF.

Don't get me wrong, I am a fan of both companies. Just seems like people are genuinely confused that Instruo is the constant maker considering Ochd was a mega hit and Mutes from the Befaco collab wasn't quite as popular.

Absolutely true, my mistake. I love SSF and WMD/SSF collab, probably my favorite maker. Probably got confused by the Instruo-ish optics of the RND module - interesting that they adopt this as the look of the DivKid line

It has the same design philosophy as other SSF modules. See: the black SSF Stereo Dipole.

Just racked my RND STEP next to my Ochd - man, what a great combo. Super organic random modulations - feeding my BIA and Mimeophon this is dub madness extreme, so good

I'm also very interested. Looking at Instruo's range so far, I can only imagine that they wouldn't do a 'straight' matrix mixer (ala Doepfer), but something very unique, and hopefully as useful as the other Instruo stuff that I have in my rack.

Matrix mixers are already very cool - if this is true, hopefully Instruo will find a way to double down on the idea.

I would also expect something that goes beyond a vanilla matrix mixer, but I hope that it does everything the Doepfer does (and more) really curious about the form factor, 6x6 sounds hige, hard to imagine they would fit that in under 24-ish hp but we can only wait and see

Nope, no Divkid connected to this. I came up with the concept for this a few years ago when Jason was first going out on his own and he was gracious enough to build it for me ;) It is up on modulargrid under the name “Performance Quantizer”. Interested to see if anything is different from the original concept.
