Re: New intellijel wavefolder/crossfader: bifold
The Instruo Athru is awesome. The strike input has an adjustable decay envelope located on the back of the module. Again, the Bifold more than exceed my expectations.

Re: New intellijel wavefolder/crossfader: bifold
Would someone mind clarifying, can the Bifold also be used as a straight ring modulator with no folding, or will there always be some folding involved as well?

Re: New intellijel wavefolder/crossfader: bifold
Yes you can use it as a pure ring mod. Simply put both input switches of the XFADE to IN P and IN S respectively, patch your carrier into IN P (it will get normalled to IN S), turn the PHASE switch above the XFADE knob to the right (inverted) and then patch your modulation source into the XFADE input.
Try to adjust your XFADE knob to center in order zero out the carrier.
Now you will get a pure ring modded signal from the MIX output. In Parallel the folded S and P signals are still available at their respective outputs and you can use either the master FOLD knob or turn it to zero and use the two fold attenuators (both are normalled to +5V) and individually adjust the fold amount.
If you switch either fold channel to use AUX feedback (switches adjacent to the FOLD knob) then you are now mixing in the ring modded tone into the folded ones.
There is a lot to explore!

Thanks for the info. This seems like such a well-thought-out module.

Re: New intellijel wavefolder/crossfader: bifold
just posted this to the Intellijel forum...
My Bifold arrived to complete my Intellijel Complex Oscillator, and join my Brenso and Cš-L!
So now I have a perfect Intellijel chain - Dixie2+, Rubicon2 and Bifold to make up a complete analog Complex Oscillator arrangement; with KorgasmatronII filter, Quadrax for envelopes and modulation, two LPG 1U low pass gates, and a Quad VCA.
Here is a demonstration that produces a three-part piece:
For this demonstration, I used a sequence from Frap Tools USTA...
-not my Intellijel performance set (Planar2+Tetê+Tetrapad)... my bad.
:-(
but, it's a good demonstration of the Complex Oscillator package Intellijel has built, particularly Bifold and those wicked LPGs!
The patch consists of:
Dixie2+ zigzag wave into the Serial (Serge) wavefolder and an LPG on the right;
and Rubicon's warp output going to the Parallel (Buchla) wavefolder to the left.
I also have Dixie2+ feeding the TZFM input of Rubicon2.
While those two trade-off alternating gates to the LPGs, I am sending additional trigger patterns to Quadrax, KorgasmatronII and a Quad VCA channel to send through the centre bass voice - which is the Rubicon2 Sub2 output.
The wavefolders are modulated with Quadrax Vascillators for variation.
Throughout the piece, I am manually adding through-zero FM to the Rubicon from Dixie via the Index and adjusting the base FOLD on the wavefolders to shift the intensity and add movement.
Enjoy!!!

Re: New intellijel wavefolder/crossfader: bifold
Very interesting timbres, you're making me considering getting an LPG. I typically feed my Bifold triangular signal from the Ts-L or changing waveforms from the Mangrove, and your patch makes me think the soft filtered envelope of a low pass gate can add a lot of warmth to the output.

PC finally shipping.
I also have a Dannysound Timbre on the way.
Excited to see how the buchla style folders compare directly.
Will try to do a comparison video.

Odd, I just talked to them and they did not seem to have a clue on a timeline.

Re: New intellijel wavefolder/crossfader: bifold
got mine yesterday from nightlife in vancouver, who've had it in stock for weeks now. it sounds exactly like i hoped it would: very warm, not aggressively buzzy like the ufold, or cold and harsh like the cs-l's wavefolder. cross-fading between fold types and/or input sources is also such a good feature. dixie and bifold of course make a great pair, and it compliments an older verbos co brilliantly. sounds especially good with a (borrow) natural gate. looking forward to trying the ring mod tip tonight.
Re: New intellijel wavefolder/crossfader: bifold
Mine arrived today, also from nightlife. Sounds *excellent,* and has an extremely wide range of timbres on tap.

Did you grab a diy Dannysound or assembled? The demos of it sound great.brandonlogic wrote: ↑Wed Sep 30, 2020 12:36 pmPC finally shipping.

Can't wait to get my Bifold. Ordered from Detroit Modular as PC and CTRL are already sold out.

Re: New intellijel wavefolder/crossfader: bifold
Got mine a couple days ago, and have no big complaints. I still hate the tiny posts instead of knobs. If they insist on using them for space considerations, the ones that are attenuverters should have a center detent for a 0 setting. But that’s a generic complaint. I’m going to order another one, and that says it all.

Re: New intellijel wavefolder/crossfader: bifold
We have found that pots with center detent are rarely accurate with respect to center position. It is like +/-20% accuracy! For this reason we switched to using non-detented pots on most of our products some years ago. This way you can make fine adjustment to zero things out when necessary. At least with the sym/aux pots you have the option to turn the switch to "x" (off).

My Bifold arrived, and I picked up an Athru as well. Did a vid showing off each of them:ferran wrote: ↑Thu Sep 24, 2020 6:14 amStrangeAttraction wrote: ↑Thu Sep 17, 2020 6:41 pmThose wavefolders on NE modules really add a lot to the range of sounds we can all get out of their modules.![]()
I'd like to add this thread voting for the instruo athrú, little marvel. Intellijel bifold is keeping my eye. Loving wavefolders.

Re: New intellijel wavefolder/crossfader: bifold
My only criticism of the Bifold is the lack of cv control over the symmetry. I'd gladly lose the useless LEDs below the symmetry pots and put in jacks instead....

Re: New intellijel wavefolder/crossfader: bifold
@jschussler: You can control the symmetry with CV. Flip the switch to the AUX position and send your CV into the AUX input. Control the amount via the attenuator. The SYM position just normals +5V to the attenuator.

Re: New intellijel wavefolder/crossfader: bifold
Cool. Is there a way to control each channel separately? I found that I get tons of tonal variation by noodling with the symmetry, and doing them each in different patterns is particularly cool.

Re: New intellijel wavefolder/crossfader: bifold
Separate CV into the FOLD P and FOLD S will allow you to control them separately, and then use the big FOLD knob to adjust the baseline of the folding for both channels manually.jschussler wrote: ↑Fri Oct 02, 2020 2:31 pmCool. I think of it more like the two CV inputs are for automation, while the FOLD knob is for performance.

Re: New intellijel wavefolder/crossfader: bifold
@jschussler: On the module you can only have the channels with a different attenuation amount. Having one inverted relative to the other is a good way to have them move differently. If you really want totally separate control over the symmetry for each channel then you can do one via aux, and the other externally. All you need to do is sum the incoming signal with your symmetry CV before passing it to the bifold. You can do this with any module that has some summing capability, eg: Quadratt, Duatt, Triatt, etc. If we had independent symmetry for each channel we would have had to make the module larger to accommodate the jacks, we felt the switches were a good compromise.
