Cosmotronic Cosmix

Post by talfred » Mon Jul 06, 2020 5:55 pm

Found this mixer on modulargrid, seems very nice and just what I'm looking for.

Image

4 mono channels with pan and aux send
2 stereo channels
overdrive circuit with high and low controls
clickless mute switches
true bypass switch for the overdrive circuit

https://cosmotronic.nl/cosmix.html

There are a lot of mixers in eurorack, but I haven't found any other that has these sort of functions in such a small format.
Might go for this if the price is right. Only things I feel is lacking is a headphone output and stereo sends. As far as I know, it's not released yet, but they have already released a dual function generator.

Cosmotronic has posted renders only. Not sure if their modules actually exist, other than the prior Delta-V version displayed.

Hi!

Thanks for the interest in our new module!
It will be out soon, hopefully we can get the first models to dealers by the end of the month :sb:
It has four mono inputs with panning and an aux bus, and two full stereo inputs.
Each channel has a dedicated clickless mute switch, so you can also easily mute stereo channels.

The main output has a stereo dual band compressor built in, which let's you drive the low and the high bands seperately.
This stage feeds into a diode clipping circuit to create a warm saturated distortion when overdriven.
(There's also a switch to bypass the compressor stage)

There's a master volume knob at the output, so you can also easily attenuate the output to line level.

I'll post up some photo's soon!

This looks fantastic. This *almost* checks every box I could want in a small-format euro mixer. Personally I'd prefer an inverted panel because I usually mount modules like this in a horizontal/skiff row, but I could just mount it upside-down worst case. Only things missing from my "be-all-end-all mixer" is a master stereo insert for things like MSCL or Overseer and a headphone out. Lookin' good either way.

Damn, this could be a great mixer for me...if I can find the space for it. Any idea what it'll cost?

The switches let you select between sending pre or post fader to the aux bus for that channel. This allows for more flexible routing.

I'm very interested in this as well. Will you ship directly to North America?

Would love to get my hands on one on the US West Coast when the time is right. Any chance there'll be a 3-pin mix out or in on the back?

This looks awesome. Would love if it had CV panning or volume control, but those are probably two features I don't use as often, and this is packed with other features for the HP. Does anyone know if there are any video reviews of it before it officially comes out?

I've been excited about this one for a while. Seems like a really cool mixer to have for a live set. Will this work with line levels as well kybernetik?

Looks great, I have the original Delta-V which I like. I didnt even mind the color at all.
Anyway, looking forward to having another Cosmotronic module in my rig. :tu:

Thanks for the interest everyone :D

They will be available from dealers in the US, I'll post an updated list once we've shipped the modules.
We aim to have them at our dealers in the coming month.

There's actually a small JST-SH connector for extra left/right input and one for a stereo output before the drive circuit. We added these for possible future expanders, but they could be adapted for DIY as well. All you need is a three pin JST-SH cable.

Yea the lack of cv in unfortunate, but is a design decision we made to keep the HP, cost and parts complexity down. We wanted a lot of features and channels in a small footprint, so we had to make some choices what to keep and what to leave out.

We hope to have those video's up soon™ :tu:

Not officially, it's a eurorack level (sub)mixer. With the overdrive switched off it's basically unity gain. However the drive has a lot of gain, so you could theoretically use it to bring it up to eurorack level.

Perfecto, planning to daisy chain it into my MixUp into the outs on my Intellijel 7u case. This, along with all other details you've shared, makes for a pretty stoked me.

I'm just curious about the compressor and drive. What circuits were used for each?

It's based around a dual v2153, which is a clone of the JRC2153 Sound Enhancement Processor, which was in turn based on the BBE Sonic Maximizer.
Basically it gives you a high and a low band, and let's you drive the gain for each band. It makes everything sound a lot more beefy.
The next stage is a diode clipping distortion.

After that is a buffered stereo attenuator, to easily bring down the level again after high gain distortion.

Ah yeah, it lacks the cv control of panning, individual channel outs and a headphones out to be perfect for me. Could this be added with an expander? Praga + Hrad still seems like the best option then or maybe Toppobrillo Stereo Mix 2.but really like the design and especially the stereo channels!

When can we expect this hitting retailers?
I don’t see it listed at modularsynthesizers.nl yet, and schneidersladen says coming soon.
