Middle Path VCO

Post by mskala » Mon Jul 13, 2020 9:08 am

I've just released the newest North Coast Synthesis product: the MSK 013 Middle Path VCO. It's a complex VCO with two triangle cores that can be used independently or synced, and a shaping section based on the Barrie Gilbert sine shaper design modified to produce quadrature outputs. That allows for some interesting fake-stereo effects as well as through-zero phase modulation. https://northcoastsynthesis.com/product ... h-vco.html

Vital statistics: 24HP, 36mm deep, 75mA +12V and 105mA -12V. 16-pin power connector so that it can pick up CV from the Eurorack bus. Pricing for the assembled module Cad$660 (about US$490).

Like all North Coast Synthesis modules, this one has a fully open design. As well as the detailed user/build manual, there is a complete source package including the PCB design, etc., and full DIY kits are also available.

Are there any more sound/video demos in the works? It's interesting but also a little hard to judge from the provided examples.

There are. I sent one to a reviewer who has made a video but had network trouble and couldn't upload it today; I'm hoping he'll have it online tomorrow.

Hi mskala, will you consider offering PCB/panel sets?

It's not my plan to offer PCB/panel sets any time soon. I did that briefly when I first started out, and found that they created a lot of business problems for me. Given that I'm trying to make a living from this and not doing well at the moment - things are slowly getting better, but I'm still having to dip into savings to pay for food and rent, and my savings won't last forever - I have to pay close attention to which products can actually allow me to cover development costs; and it's pretty clear that selling PCB/panel sets would only work if I could sell hundreds, possibly thousands, of them.

Looks amazing! Looking forward to hearing more examples of this oscillator in musical contexts :)

Good work! *Looks* really great - ace layout & subtly lovely visuals.

Had a quick look at the guide / circuit description - amazing OTT details!
